Next time on... Dragon BESM 3 (DBZ joke anyone?)

Had a weird idea that just seemed to work well. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a BESM 3rd edition DBZ game with no cannon characters. Kind of curious if anyone would be interested in something like this.

I might be.  Would there be a story to guide the game or just sandbox?  What races would be available?

And more importantly, do we all get 9,001 points or is that just the Highlander/Neo/<insert chosen here>?

Re: Next time on... Dragon BESM 3 (DBZ joke anyone?)

Well here's basically the layout of my thoughts so far. It would be sandboxy to some extent, but if someone wants to be a villain, an event might come up that is guided to beating the villain, or if someone wants to build a character who's a villain and some henchmen, they can have their character excused from the game long enough to be the villain they made, and they can submit a plot to the GM(s) to get it all authorized as a yes.

Races
I was playing around with races, and found that they're not extremely hard to build as templates. I worked out a 120 CP template for Saiyans, including Oozaru form (but Super Saiyan is not part of the template). And I'm currently working out a Namekian template. I suppose that if someone wants to play a race I haven't built a template for, I'd just build a template for said race (or if they proposed one I could approve), then any race should find a way to fit in.

So I am still thinking up how to work out power levels, but since I'm thinking all special attacks would have to cost Energy Points, I'm thinking that may heavily weigh in to it. As for what power level you'd be at, I suppose that would be based on how frequently people are posting. Everyone would start at a set base, and be able to grow over time. Basically the more they fought and trained, the stronger each character would eventually get. Though note, the stronger you are, the more likely the Kais (ie GMs) will become worried about your power, and be more willing to intervene. If someone is super powerful and does things that solely benefit the planet, the Kais might consider that OK, but any threat to the world is a threat to the Kais, who depending on what kind of threat, might work to stop the villain (ie organize a team to stop the enemy or train them with special moves).

I'd be interested, even playing a Villain for an arc. Possibly even going the anti-hero route. Could be different and fun.

I think the standard of 300 points i.e. Mythical is good starting point if you want Dragonball level of action or even Superhuman as that is where Dragonball ended. But if you want DBZ, definitely gonna need start at Superpowered.

Re: Next time on... Dragon BESM 3 (DBZ joke anyone?)

I agree with the Superpowered 300 CPs idea, especially since the two races I've created are both 120 CPs. I'm actually re-evaluating power level, and thinking the number of Character Points directly represent power of the character overall, why not just use those?

I'd be interested in this. I'm relatively new to BESM, but I've got the material and I'm generally a quick study.

Because it doesn't exactly equate.

Re: Next time on... Dragon BESM 3 (DBZ joke anyone?)

Well, if 1 character point was roughly 10-20 points on the DBZ "power level" scale, that could give a decent guideline for the early stuff. I wouldn't worry too much about having a true to scale measure, though, since even inside the series itself, power-levels were all over the map and ridiculously inconsistent.

In reply to zeone3000 (msg # 8):

Being that the game isn't cannon, the scouters/power level don't have to be exactly as the show explains (or fails to explain) it. Though I guess I'm open to ideas on what people want, that's why I'm posting here.

Frankly, probably should just leave exact numbers out of it. Besides, everyone having the same power level is kinda boring IMO.
