Skyrim [Rolemaster]

Hello all,

My schedule is about to free up enough in the next little while that I might actually have time to run a game or two again.

That said, might anyone be interested in running through Skyrim using the Rolemaster system, specifically RM:FRP?  I'm looking at a smaller party (3-4 players) and a slower paced game (~3-5 posts per week) so I can make sure, if nothing else, I can keep up with bookkeeping.

There are some necessary tweaks to the system we'll have to make but we can talk about those once I get something up and running.  I will be looking for your input to make this a better game for all of us.

Is there enough interest out there to make this worthwhile?

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

I'm interested as well. I love all things skyrim, and I'm always up for learning a new system.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

Okay - I am going to express but my interest (because Rolemaster makes me all sorts of happy), but I must lament a lack of time.  So, if you end up getting this going in the future: I may be able/want to participate at some point, just can't right now.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

Three positive responses in one day is a good thing for a niche game like RM.  I will keep watching to see what other responses I get.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

I am quite the ignorant when it comes to the system but i sure like the setting at on first glance, the system does seem adequate for it, just have to figure it out.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

Man, RM, used to LOVE that system! Been a while, but I also love Skyrim, so I'd definitely be interested!

I've veered away from class and level based systems since I last played RM and MERP, but for RM and Skyrim I'd easily dive back in!

In reply to Jhaelan (msg # 8):

There are really no differences between RMSS and FRP.  The two biggest I can think of are Spell Law was broken down into 3 separate books, one for each of the major realms of magic, and Talent Law from RMSS was melded into Character Law.  They did some reformatting on the layout and of the books, but the two are pretty much interchangeable.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

I count myself among the few who do enjoy the RM system, so I would sign up for such a game. I did not play the Skyrim comp game but am open.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

In reply to Sofia (msg # 9):

Sofia, you will find that the Rolemaster system is adequate for any genre of roleplaying.  The dice rolls are easy enough, pick up d100 and roll, then add the appropriate skill bonus and you are done.  The most daunting part of Rolemaster is the character creation process.  Because of the number of skills within the game, you can create any concept you can dream of in your devious little mind.  In Rolemaster you are limited by your imagination.  Even though I have never played Skyrim, I can't wait to see what Finlos has done with it and Rolemaster.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

I think that Rolemaster is actually better suited for RPOL than it is for tabletop play.  Checking the numbers against the Charts slowed the rhythm down too far; in my experience anyway.  Also, you can work the chart results into a post pretty seamlessly.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

This is, for the moment, a work-in-progress.  I like Skyrim's sandbox attitude and there are ample opportunities for both role playing and dungeon crawling, hopefully we will see plenty of both.  There is also a main plot which you, the party, can follow at your leisure.  Or not, up to you guys.

Rolemaster is certainly robust enough to handle whatever we can throw at it and I agree that on RPoL there is enough time between posts to look up whatever we need to.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

In reply to Shiv (msg # 15):

Actually chart look up was made much simpler by a program produced last year by a gm in Australia.  It automatically looks up all combat results and can do crit and fumble lookups as well.  Not sure if I can list it here, but if you email me I will answer any questions to the best of my abilities.

Re: Skyrim [Rolemaster]

I've set the game up here for those who wish to join:

link to another game

The first little bit will be discussion.  We will be introducing some to Skyrim and others to Rolemaster.  We can discuss party composition and help each other with character creation.  See you there!
