Re: Advice: Best time to post an add in Wanted - Players?
The impression I've gotten from all my games, though I admit that I haven't actually done a study on it, is that advertising for players Saturday tends to get you responses Sunday, while posting Sunday night gets you responses Monday.
Keep in mind that there is a wide spectrum of players here. Many players have jobs during the week, so they have more free time on the weekends. Some players are able to post from work, while others can't do so until they get home. A lot of players post from their smart phones. Other players can't post on the weekends due to family commitments.
And then there's time zones to consider. This board has players from all over the world. I've seen some from Australia, Japan, South Africa, Netherlands, and obviously the U.S., Canada and England.
So I don't think it's really about timing. As you commented on elsewhere, there are a lot of games represented here. I only play about 10% of them myself. Getting a response, especially a lot of responses, is more about appealing to a wide group of players. The more mainstream your game is, the greater the pool of players you'll have to draw from.
The next criterium would be a hook. If the title of your thread is clever or evocative, you're apt to get more players. Likewise, the title of your game and the setting are also important. Compare: 'Cowboys and Dinosaurs in the Old West' with 'Tyranosaur-bustin' Cowboys in the Wild, Wild West... On Mars!'
I'm not saying change the name of your game or the setting, just present it with panache! (Not that I do it, even though I should.)
