IC: Star Wars Saga edition idea

I have a strange idea for a game (aren't they all), so am coming here first to see if I'm the only one who likes it.

The basic idea is that 4 or so people from here and now suddenly find themselves a long time ago in a galaxy far away.. They now occupy bodies that aren't their own and have capabilities and skills they didn't before - and a few extra memories to boot. For the most part they're themselves, they just know how to fire a blaster and pilot a starfighter (assuming their host could, of course). The game would be set during the Rebellion Era aka Episodes IV - VI.

I have two plots in mind, unsure which way to go:
a) the hosts are a group of treasure hunters/explorers/etc who found an artifact (Sith Holocron) which pulled the characters' consciousness into their bodies. Shortly after the characters 'arrive' a group of Stormtroopers burst in, stun them, take the holocron and leave them there. The group have to try to get the holocron back (as the only link to what has happened to them), but also run from the guy who paid the hosts to get it in the first place - and had paid half upfront so wants his credits back, too bad they already spent it on a ship and other stuff. Also, given the characters' potential knowledge of how things are gonna go (Luke, Yoda, Death Star destruction, etc) they can either try to avoid messing up the timeline or try to improve it or even try to accomplish some of it yourself and claim the glory.
b) quite similar to a, but a lot more focused on canon events. Ideas are a bit vague at the moment, but possibly the hosts as soon as they arrive somehow derail the initial meeting of Luke, Obi Wan, and Han, which throws the future of the Rebellion into question, so the characters have to fix things/improve things/not mess everything up.

The character and the host might match well, with a used car salesman inside a dashing smuggler or blackbelt inside a Teräs Käsi student, or the opposite with an army grunt inside a foppish noble or kindergarten teacher in a heavily armored mercenary. The genders wouldn't need to match. Character's knowledge of the galaxy can vary from having seen the movie once to knowing the whole EU - which isn't too accurate, only some of those authors had real knowledge of their source material.

I wouldn't be opposed to anyone being Force Sensitive - and in the holocron idea, I might give everyone the feat as they 'arrive' even if they never get trained in the skill - but no one will be a Jedi.

And as an aside, good old George Lucas is actually a native from the galaxy who arrived on Earth the same way the characters arrived there. He just ended up making movies out of his recent history, with a meticulous attention to detail - all those revisions and updates he kept making to the movies as technology improved were just him improving the historical accuracy. The prequels however, are a bit more based off what he was told than memories, so their accuracy is a bit looser (you try making a movie about when your parents were young without anything but your own knowledge and seehow you go). And because he made movies of what he knew, things would look a lot like the movies, but some things would be slightly different, yet still recognizable.

Mechanically, I'm thinking of using the hosts' classes but using backgrounds from the Rebellion Era book to cover the character's skills. Or simply open up the skill list and have you justify your choices. I had been thinking that I'd limit it to mental skills, but physical makes sense too - being good at climbing takes skill, and although your new body is weak you still know the best spots to grab so am still better than an average person. Oh, and I'm thinking level 3.

There's probably some details I'm missing, such as the game probably being adult, but that's my current rambling on the idea for now. So, any interest or ideas?

I'm interested. I ran a traveller game like this once where we translated each persons abilities and background into gameplay stats then thrust them into the heart of the 3rd imperium.

A game where people who know how to shoot can retain that into the starwars universe would be nice. Also for the few of us who actually know how to pilot. I can already think of a few characters I would like to play as.

I could be down for either. Having been in a game of your before, you know I'm all about the body-weirdness.

This sounds like a really cool concept. The fun twist with George Lucas being from there is really cool. It would be a twist to have him switch names to make his personal friends seem like they did the important stuff but they never did.
The events that "Han Solo" did happened just his name was different, because the real Han Solo lived his parents basement.

I am in, I would really enjoy playing a SWSE game.

And even if you were in Mos Eisley cantina, whose to say you'd recognise the farm boy with his dad/grandad having a drink as Luke and Obi-Wan, which might not even be their names.

I'm also amused by the thought that in a) someone gets the idea to train with Yoda and ends up 'using him up' and have him become one with the Force before Luke shows up - so he just crashes on a swamp planet with no one to help him.

Re: IC: Star Wars Saga edition idea

I didn't get much input, but I like the idea :)

I ended up going with option A because it gave me more options and plot to go with. Of course players are free to ignore everything and just try to be the first ones to blow up the Death Star - or even rat out the Rebels secret base on Hoth long before they learn about it ;)
