I've been hankering to running a sci fi game. I am thinking about making it an adult game due to mature theme and the potential of inter party romance.

However sci fi is a very broad field. I am trying to narrow down the theme type.

Here are my options so far.

1. Merc. Group. Taking jobs that are not strictly legal. Think space pirates mixed with Firefly.

2. Fleet. Large ship exploration and diplomacy and war. Think Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, the Lost Fleet, or Robotech Macross.

3. Invasion. Fighting off aliens. Think Starship Troopers, Aliens, Robotech, etc.

Other things to consider. Mecha? Star fighters, lots of alien types or few aliens? Alien PCs?

What do you think? What do you want to play?

All three are quite okay, I think. I suppose a Galactica -style game might work, really. Or, one could go for the Homeworld-series (http://homeworld.wikia.com) style with the characters being crew and passengers of a great Arc-style ship, trying to survive the extinction of their own species, either against some kind of an apocalypse that met their homeworld or an enemy chasing them.

As for the races, we could go for all-human or at least humanlike creatures (at least to begin with).

Mecha, starfighters, why not.

What were you planning on using for rules or would this be a freeform game?

What rules set are you looking to use?  I have a never been used robotech character ready to go....:)
