Anyone up for Microscope?

The fractal, time-line creating RPG?

Could go Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Superheroes, or some sort of strange mix (ala Rifts, or Dragon Ball Z).

Probably about 5 players. I'd want to work out what the Pitch for the game was before we made a game forum, since I'd want to name the game something other than just "Microscope", y'know?

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

I might be. Don't have the book though. Is that a problem?

Hmm. Not really. It has some advice, and it would be good to not have to repeat the rules, but they are pretty simple and intuitive.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

I would be over the moon for some Microscope. But I would prefer non-fantasy.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

Well, that's 3, so it's a given that this will happen. Could have at least two others.

Non-fantasy is quite alright. What did you have in mind? Hard sci-fi, or just anything without wizards?

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

I'd be interested - been looking to play Microscope for a while (only played it once in a small two-player round), not sure how well it translates to Play by Post though.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

Okay, that's four players, that's enough. We need a Pitch though before I make the forum itself. So far the only opinion we have it non-fantasy. So, some suggestions;

-Advanced artificial intelligence paves the way for the technological singularity
-The history of an alien invasion of Earth, ending in assimilation of the invaders
-A war between three space empires ends with only one ruler of the galaxy

For the "Pitch" we're looking for a broad, top-down idea for what our timeline will be, something that can cover years, decades, maybe even centuries, and generations and generations of people.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

I'm not entirely sure what non-fantasy entails, but besides Sci-fi, I suppose alternate history might also be an option. I'll post some ideas once I get home from work.

Of Aincumis' pitches, the second and third sound best to me - not sure which one I'd prefer, though.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

For alternate history, an alien invasion during some chosen historical period (Classical, Medieval, Rennaissance, Civil War) and how history differs significantly. Or some other non-fantasy break point from history that gives us plenty of room to manoeuvre.

Or perhaps true history of a true, world-spanning conspiracy, orchestrating world events behind the scene, warring against other secret societies for control.

I like this idea.
But also, before I commit, what would the posting rate requirements be? I'm kind of working with a pretty full plate, so I'm not sure if I'll be writing lots of text quickly.

Ooh, that's a good one. I'd be on board with that as well. I had a few ideas, but now I definitely  want to support this one.

Re: Anyone up for Microscope?

Well, then we'll go with that one. I'll call the game "The Microscope Conspiracy" or something. We'll hash out all the details there once it begins.

Expect the game up tonight or tomorrow.
