IC: Strategy Games
I’ve been tossing around a couple of turn-based strategy games in my head lately, and wanted to see if either received enough interest to develop beyond a basic concept. Both games would utilize the same home-brewed system.
The first concept is for 3-5 players to be developers – a combination of land, commercial, industry, real estate - that are building their fortunes in competition with one another in a fictional city and its surrounding communities. The players would influence local politicians, chambers of commerce, raise private equity, and many more tactics to win the rights to revitalize a downtown district, build a housing community, convert a brownfield site into an industrial manufacturing plant, etc. in the name of profit and fame.
The second concept is for 3-5 players to be the heads of organized crime groups that are competing to control the vice industries in a fictional city – narcotics, prostitution, labor racketeering, etc. – through manipulation of the establishment, a well-timed hit, or any other number of underhanded tactics. Ideally one of the players would play the role of law enforcement and have to utilize their assets to uncover intelligence about the other player-driven organizations and go after them.
I would love to hear thoughts on the viability and desirability of these concepts.
