Interestcheck- Ashfall

Ash fall.

any interest in a freeform or gurps 4e game where we deal with the Yellowstone super volcano going off and its aftermath.

Re: Interestcheck- Ashfall

I would be interested in that.

What were you thinking of in terms of characters and time scale?

Most of these games specify no USMC, Ranger, or Survivalist characters and the like, and also don't deal with the immediate aftermath, neither of which I like very much.

Also what were you thinking of for a rating, Adult, Mature, General...?

Re: Interestcheck- Ashfall

Well truthfully we could do Immediate aftermath. Or even being right at the begining of it. Dealing with getting to shelter if possible. dealing the the pyroclastic flows, secondary eruptions, climate change and then the onslaught of survival and aftermath of it all. Even possibility of reality shattering things like. scientists have a good idea of what is down in the earth, but no one has really be down there, so something else might happen etc.

The game would basically be dealing with the Yellowstone eruption and what might come. I watched a documentary on the volcano and it got me intrigued.

As per characters You know I think players could do what they want. If they think they can Rp a survivalist or military go right ahead. If players want to be scientists actually predicting and dealing with the volcano go right ahead!

As for rating, Probably Mature or adult but there would be no sex, fade black would used. Just in my game I would want there to be realism. So death and other things are very real dangers.

Re: Interestcheck- Ashfall

OK, and what were you thinking of in terms of system and area?

This could be done very well with GURPS, BESM, or D20 Modern, but I cant really see any other system handling it well and having enough players for a game.

Also were you planing to have a specific area of the world in mind for the game, such as NYC or Detroit or somewhere closer to the volcano? Things change drastically if we are in a small town close to the eruption VS a major city on the other side of the continent. It also changes the game significantly if we all are a band of survivors working together VS if we are spread out over the face of the earth.

(I would not recommend having the players all be separated, it's too much work for one GM to handle.)

In reply to Alexei Yaruk-Mundhenk (msg # 4):

I would like to do gurps I think that it could be handled well in that system. As for an area it, here is the thing with Mt. Saint helens they got ash in NYC and Helens was small. If yellowstone blew it would be world altering. Not just a little but totally.

Scientists in the documentary estimated that everything in a 100 mile radius would be gone, almost right away. there would be no where that is safe with in that 100 mile radius. Then out to about 2000-2500 miles out would be hit with possible pyroclastic flows( partially melted rock and ash) with in hours. Then Molten Ash would spew about 80,000 feet into the air, and spread possibly almost around the world with in a week.

That is not even counting secondary eruptions and effects. So if yellowstone blew within hours everything probably down to LA,ca to Missouri would be hit with Pyro clastic flows and molten rock. it would go about half way into Canada north and reach Alaska. And the front islands of Hawaii could get hit as well.

Re: Interestcheck- Ashfall

That's my point. If we are in a town at all closer to the volcano than Detroit unless we are all in some kind of super sized fallout shelter we are dead within hours. But if we are somewhere around the Detroit region or points East it's more of a post apocalypse thing and we have a very different game.
