Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

I'm considering starting up a game of Shadowrun, and I wanted to gauge interest.

My general concept is that the characters will be part of a Shadowrunner "guild".  As a result, each player would create multiple characters, then decide which character will accept each mission.  This is largely to prevent one of the inherent problems I've seen in Shadowrun, where the group goes out to, say, the Barrens, and the groups decker ends up being largely useless, since there's not much technology around.

I would probably start out with a couple of pre-written missions, since I have only marginal experience with Shadowrun (and it's been a while at that lol).  Once I get the hang of it again, I'd start moving into custom stuff.

I'm open to what the group might like the do though.  If the group  wanted to be a bunch of amoral assassins, I can work with that.  If they wanna be the guys who only take jobs that hurt bad guys, I can roll with that too.

So with all that in mind, anybody interested?

Re: Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

While I'd really like to play in a game of Shadowrun (it was my first RPG love going waaaay back), I have some pretty big issues with the 5th edition ruleset. If it used any other version of the game, I'd love to join, but 5e just suffers too many problems.

I would be open to running another edition.  I have played a couple minor sessions of 5e, and one session of 4e in the past.  I suggest 5e mainly because I know I have the material for it, not as certain about 4e.  Since I haven't played all that much of it, I'm not familiar with the rules issues you refer to lol.

Re: Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

Well I get why you might want to do that....however, having each player with multiple characters sounds like a fairly large headache especially for the GM to go through all the characters being submitted. Plus having to deal with not getting a Shadowrun team together for long-term  - which I know is just as if not more common in the books and setting than a group of 'Runners deciding they balance together well and staying together for missions.

I am easy when it comes to the various editions out there so that part I don't mind.

Yeah that was a tentative idea a buddy and I had kicked around for an in-person SR game I'll be running in the future, to solve that issue.

That said, I will be trying to tailor any game to the players, so I would be perfectly all right with just doing a standard single-character-per-player, and just not running certain things if not everyone would be useful.

I'm easy to work with lol.

So I've only kind of skimmed the 5th edition book as of yet, but what I saw looked pretty good. Out of curiosity, what sort of problems do you have with it? You can PM  me if you don't wanna de-rail the thread. I don't want to start an edition war here. lol

Either way, I'm up for 4 or 5e.

Re: Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

Definitely interested. Already played a bit of 5e and love it but sadly my current game is moving slowly. Something like this would allow for much faster gameplay.

Re: Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

I would be interested as well.  Have little experience, but can get the 5e book.  I want to learn to play the game.

This is an interest check thread, and as such, the edition-opinion-editorializing ceases here.

Back to our regularly scheduled conversation.

Re: Interest Check - Shadowrun 5e

In reply to BlonderChick (msg # 9):

That's actually a really poor overview of the edition, and even worse catalogue of "issues" of 5e with some very petty and not-even-close-to-accurate entries.

Still, expressing interest, as is the point of this thread.

I play mega traveller with a pen and no scratch paper. Your complaining about complexity where there is none.
