Interest: Vampire the Requiem based around relationships

I've noticed a problem around RPoL's system of RTJs. Because players are not accepted into a game until after they propose a character, most characters are designed alone by a single player and then inserted artificially into a game with similarly created characters. Thus, unless there is serious rework of characters in OOC after everyone's been accepted, sharing background elements between characters is very rare. Most characters I've seen have been static puzzle pieces designed to fit smoothly anywhere in the world instead of dynamic characters with detailed and specific spots meant just for them.

So, I thought that if players are accepted immediately and had time to plan out their characters with each other, a much more interwoven and cohesive relationship between the two characters can be born.

Thus, I propose the following game: I want to run a Vampire the Requiem game using the original nWoD rules (with a few house rules) looking for at least two players. These players will create characters together that are intricately connected to each other. I originally imagined two players as sire and childe, as that is an interesting relationship that I had never seen explored between two real people. But I am open to ideas and suggestions, and if more than two people show interest, I will try to accommodate everyone (although I may not accept more than 5 players; I'm not one for big sandbox games)

As the players brainstorm out these character relationships and talk about how to roleplay them, I will build the world around these characters, fleshing out their home city with the locations described in your backstories and the npcs will be family, friends, etc. Then, when we have a fully fleshed out world and cast of characters, I will start the game.

So, I thought up the relationship between sire and childe for the players as it allows the chance for players to take on a role usually left for npcs. In such a game, the sire would tell me the motivations for embracing a childe and then I would allow the players to roleplay out the embrace in whatever form that may take. The sire would then help set up scenes where the childe learns to use his or her new disciplines and is educated about the world of kindred. I will occasionally interject with random happenings that will challenge the characters according to the information they gave me. For example, a significant other might see the childe and ask where he or she has been lately, or the sire might be called to the Prince's court and face an old nemesis.

The point is that it's a player and character-driven experience that I would love to read, write, and roleplay in. Would anyone be interested in this if I ran it?

As someone who is looking for a chance to become more familiar with VtR, I would jump at the chance to play a childe in this type of game.

Color me interested if this were to happen.

This sounds really interesting. I would definitely like more information about this.

Any reason you aren't using the Blood and Smoke rules? It's a vastly superior rule set, in almost every conceivable way.

Indeed - the GMC rules are great!

I'd be interested too. :)

Re: Interest: Vampire the Requiem based around relationships

I have seen good things in Blood and Smoke, and I want to incorporate some of what I have seen as house rules, but the two main reasons I cannot run the game by those rules are:

1) I don't actually own the books Blood and Smoke or God-Machine Chronicles. Everything I know about it comes from google searches. And I'm not currently looking to buy the books anytime soon because I am on a college student's budget...

2) I don't understand how some of the rules work, partly because of the reason above, (For example, Persuasion uses some weird system of walls and first impressions? I dunno) and cannot therefore run them.

EDIT: I know the God-Machine Rules are free somewhere online, and I have looked at that in the past, but I still don't understand how to run things like combat using these rules.

I would be immensely interested in such a game. The idea of making the characters together is an intriguing idea, and I would love to test it. I would not mind the obvious exp difference between characters, as they are in the different stages of life... or rather un-death.

GMC update is nice, but not necessary. The game functions perfectly fine without it in first edition form.

I would be interested in a game like this. I like then idea of getting characters wants and desires out in the open before the story telling begins.

Re: Interest: Vampire the Requiem based around relationships

Okay, so I think there's a good number of people here that are interested, so I'll make the game. Are most interested people okay with it being rated Adult?

Re: Interest: Vampire the Requiem based around relationships

I can work with or without an adult rating; I'll be applying either way.

Re: Interest: Vampire the Requiem based around relationships

link to another game

Okay, I made a game where I will be accepting any players that are still interested. All you have to do is send me an RTJ with your statement of age for the Adult Rating, and I'll accept you, using your username as your character. When you're in the game, there will be an OOC thread you will see where you can start brainstorming character ideas with other accepted players.
