A different take on post-apocalpytic

I was perusing the shelves of a bookstore while waiting for a friend to get off work and picked up the Hellfrost bestiary. It gave me a cool concept for a game.

For those not familiar with the setting, Hellfrost is a basic fantasy setting wherein the god of winter has run amok and the land is slowly freezing and being overrun by various winter-themed baddies.

Here's the idea:

Take that basic setting, and apply it to a gritty, modern tale. It's part Day After Tomorrow, part Walking Dead, part urban fantasy.

The players would be normal humans. No fantasy races would be allowed. Themes would favor horror over high-action. I imagine a small town in the northwest of the United States gripped by a powerful blizzard, strange cries mixing in with the howling winds, people start to disappear, and what's that strange footprint in the snow?

Dial up the terror very slowly.

As things progress and the players realize what is going on, they then learn that there are beings coming over from 'the other side' that aren't hostile, and if they want to survive, they've got to make alliances. A political aspect opens up as they negotiate with these refugees while keeping them from being torn to shreds by a mob. That sort of thing.

I am always interested in this kind of game but I have no knowledge of the hellfrost system.

Re: A different take on post-apocalpytic

Personally, I'd use the setting material for inspiration and go with something simple, like The Window, but I guess that would be up to whomever wants to run it.
