Arkham Asylum Anarchy

Hey!

Im currently kicking the idea of an adult game set in DC Comics´ Arkham Asylum around in my head. Players will be all sorts of supervillain-inmates, ranging from The Joker over Mr. Freeze to Harley Quinn.

Due to whatever reasons, there has been a malfunction in the security systems and most of the inmates run free and spread Terror and Anarchy in the Asylum. Batman is nowhere to be seen, but the Gotham PD has the Asylum surrounded and it has come to some sort of standoff-situation. They dont dare to move in, but the inmates cant really get out - yet.

So all those villains run free within the boundaries of the Asylum and make their own plans to either escape or just cause Chaos and Destruction.

Due to the various powerlevels of all the villains and my lack of knowledge of any good superhero systems, I tend to do this as some sort of freeform game.

Would anyone be interested in something like that?

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

You had me up until freeform.  Put some rules into it and I would certainly be interested.  Without it, I'll pass.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

This sounds perfect for Marvel Heroic Roleplaying. If you add a rule-set I'm definitely in.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

Presuming you would be using the actual villains from the DC universe instead of creating original characters, you might take a look at the DC Adventures RPG by Green Ronin since the game is in print and already has the characters already stated up for you and your players.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

What they said, and especially if you're using DC Adventures, as I already own the books and would love to play a pre-statted villain.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

I just took a look into the quickstart-rules of DC Adventures and it seems like a pretty easy system to me. Do you think the few rules included in the quickstarter would be enough to run a full game?

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

 Definitely! Great idea IMHO!

Would you allow players to create their own villains?

In reply to ego21 (msg # 12):

Yeah, guess so. Id like to have a good line-up of DC-villains, but Im sure, there will be people willing to play Harley or the Joker.

Having some original villains wont hurt too, I guess.

Still trying to get my hands on the DC Adventures-books to get a grip on the rules and the prewrittten characters.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

Hello everyone.

Just a quick update:
Im currently putting up a really simple homebrew-system, to play this game by. The DC Adventures books seem great, but since the quickstart-rules are missing any sort of character generation I think its too complicated to fully explain them here.
So if you wanna make up your own villains, I hope my little system will be okay.

If youre telling me, you only wanna use villains from the DC Universe, then we can use the quickstart-rules, I guess.

Re: Arkham Asylum Anarchy

Thanks for the link.

I guess, I´ll still use my lightweight homebrew-rules, to keep them more in the background. Working myself into the DC Adventures rules would take quite a lot of my time, Id rather spend on actually playing instead of getting my head wrapped around the full rules-set.

So, to anyone who´s still interested... Here it is:
