Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

It is the height of the Dominion War. As the Federation and it's allies struggle against the Dominion, you and your crew have been engaged in covert operations aboard the Defiant class escort USS Exile.

During the height of the battle to retake Deep Space Nine, a small one-man vessel attempted to slip a trilithium detonation device into the Bajor Wormhole, in an attempt to crack into the Nexus, that timeless place between timelines. Your small, deadly vessel pursued.

When you came out of the wormhole, you saw a small, defenseless world without even planetary defense systems destroyed by a monstrously huge battle station. Whoever attempted to detonate the Wormhole is in league with this monstrous Galactic Empire, and helps them liaise for his own inscrutable purposes. A small Rebellion struggles to restore democracy and liberty to this galaxy that is being crushed underneath horrid tyranny.

Can you and your small crew maintain your mandates of peaceful first contact, your commitment to the Prime Directive, while defending the Federation and assisting these heroes in their hour of need?
--

A speciality cross over game, looking at Star Wars D6, D20 Saga or FFG Star Wars. In development. Share your thoughts and ideas. Players are Starfleet officers who struggle to assist the Rebel Alliance and become involved in the Star Wars saga. I'm not interested in thread crapping or screeches about canon, I'm interested in details about how to implement this. If you're here to say this is a bad idea, I'm not interested in talking to you. I'm interested in the excitement of combining two of histories best space fantasy franchises.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

Will language be a barrier, or will English be spoken in this galaxy far, far away?  (And if the latter, what kind of interesting implications does that have?  :)

Will Trek natives have the potential to learn the Force?

Language will be as much of a barrier as it usually is - aka, if it's fun for the plot.

As for the Force? Well, that's a mystery that that heroic explorers of Starfleet will have to investigate, bringing their unparalleled scientific and deductive abilities to the fore. It's the first job of an intrepid Starfleet officer to investigate all of the mysteries of the universe. Ad Astra, Scientia!

I love this idea and would welcome a game. I think D6 is the easiest, most elegant system for Star Wars action. If it flies, I'd love to play an X-Wing pilot who gets shot up, wounded, and is forced to land aboard the Exile to provide a point of contact and exposition.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

Great idea!

I suggest using Lady Blackbird as the system. Easily flexible enough to allow both fictions to cross over and not bog it down in minutia. My experiences with D6 in a forum based game lead me away from that system. Not a fan of D20 anymore , not sure what the other system was.

Anyway, Lady Blackbird is free, easy to tailor to any setting and is similar to Fate, only not.

Good luck with your endeavor!

I offer hacked D10. RoseBaily of Onyx Path wrote some Star Trek rules, and I'm writing some rules for Star Wars, otherwise, Infinite Macabre and Mirrors provide all that's needed.

I'm not familiar with Lady Blackbird, but I am familiar with Storygames. In fact, I think that Marvel Heroic would be ideal. However, I'll go with whatever people are most familiar with.

OK, I think we have enough to get this show started. I'll post up a game in a day or two.

That will be determined in-character.

how are you going to compare the two?  it is sort of apples to oranges in terms of technology.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

The GM sets it up, the players follow the guidelines. There are plenty of system hacks that give stats for both Star Trek and Star Wars. Also, it's a game. No one should allow their fandom to freak them out if they disagree that a Klingon disruptor does the same damage as a DL-44 heavy blaster pistol.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

well, you sort of assumed I was asking in order to argue.  I was honestly asking how the proposed gm was going to approach it, since fandom HAS argued about it quite in length.  I asked because a game where the federation ship is impervious to the weapons of the empire is quite a bit different to one where they are just as vulnerable as any other ship.  Just wanted to know what the feel of the game would be.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

Fear not, when I set it up, this will be addressed. Ultimately, since both Star Trek and Star Wars are both not terribly consistent even within their own settings, with technology and stuff working or being ignored from story to story, you'll have to trust me. You won't be able to get to an "objective" understanding of how things would work because it doesn't exist - both are narrative settings, not real, functioning worlds. Both also have things which break the rules of real science without explanation (transporters, the Force). The author or GM has to make a decision and simply go with it.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

General themes -

This is primarily a Star Trek game. This is because the PCs will be primarily Starfleet officers, and the conceit of the game will be viewing the A Long Time Ago In A Galaxy Far, Far Away through the eyes of those who Boldly Go Where No One Has Gone Before.

UFP Technology will be different from Imperial Technology, but not more advanced.
For example, I will have extensive notes on the differences between Hyperdrive and Warp Drive (hint - both have advantages and disadvantages.)

The primary thrust of the game will be characters, relationships, philosophical questions and moral issues in the great tradition of both Star Trek and Star Wars. George Lucas talked about the debt he owed Star Trek, and Star Wars has deeply influenced the Trek franchise, as seen in Deep Space Nine and the JJ Abrams Star Trek films.

I will determine what is in continuity and is what is not. If anyone attempts to use 'canon' (a spurious, fandom destroying concept) as a bully stick, they will be kicked out. My interpretation reigns supreme. I'm always open to reasonable discussion over PM, but I will not tolerate arguement or trouble.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

I guess I'd like to hear a bit more about the goals of the game story wise.  I am much more of a star wars fan than a star trek fan, so I'm interested in how you plan on bringing the two stories together, and if there will be more to the story than the federation crew simply surviving their situation.

Re: Star Trek-Star Wars: Exile (Crossover using EotE/AoR/FaD)

GURPS would be useful for this particular game, if only to mix the two different types of technologies.  The problem is that the relevant material is spread out across a number of books, so it's probably not worth bothering about, but there's quite a bit in the GURPS Prime Directive books, and there's some solid fan-made GURPS Star Wars material out there.  It's just a matter of Technological Level in GURPS terms.  The GURPS spaceships material has a wide range of ships at different TLs, too, all freely mixable.

I've decided on using Star Wars D6, due to widespread familiarity and ease of use. Check the Players Wanted forum for the game ad. Thanks for your input!
