Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

Introduction:
“THE CLOAK FOUND DEAD” reads the headline with a picture of a bloody church gate beneath it. The rest of the story is sensationalist but captures the broken hopes of LA. The City of Angels was running low on its namesake, the only man who had been keeping it from falling into the hands of gangsters was now lining a coffin and people were scared.
Fortunately, the people who had found the body outside the halls of Shepherds Rest were friends and kept the secret of the man behind the domino mask. Only a handful of people knew that Victor Drake, the stage magician with a dazzling smile and lightning hands, had been waging a one-man war on crime for the last five years.
You are one of that handful, and one of the few people seeking justice for a man branded a criminal by the police. This why you now stand in grim silence in Victor’s apartment; surrounded by a handful of friends just as determined to make sure that Victor Drake is avenged. Despite the company the night is cold with the realization that something far darker than anything you have faced before hides in the shadows of the hungry city.

Information:
Looking to run a pulp action game using the Adventure! game system by White Wolf Publishing but not the setting. The game will be set in the 1930's, and will be a mixture of different pulp genres (Hardboiled Mystery, Globe Trotting Adventure, Supernatural menace, etc.)
This is a game for fans of old serials like The Shadow and Doc Savage, as well as more modern homages like Indiana Jones and Sky Captain. I am doing an interest check if this is something that people would like to take part in.

That sounds like it could be interesting.  Was always a fan of "Adventure!" and it was always a bit disappointing it never got more support outside the main book.  I would certainly be interested in taking a look if the game gets created.

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

Well it looks like I will be setting something up. I will also be looking at having some new groups for heroes to choose from as far as backgrounds go.

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

Interested in the concept of the game, but I'm not familiar with the game system at all (I can understand most dice rolls and such, but other than that would probably need an explaination of the rest). Would you recommend this game for someone who is completely new to the system, or not so much?

I'm eager to learn, but won't have hard feelings if it may be difficult to pick up.

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

Adventure! uses a version of White Wolf's storyteller system, so you'll already be good if you've played any of their other games as far as the basic mechanics go.

Speaking of which, the mechanics are simply enough, add your Trait+Skill and roll that many dice.

Most of the items on the sheet are self explanatory, and you get X amount to spend in each section so the basics of character generation are pretty simple.

The only tricky bit might be choosing the "powers" or Knacks during character creation if you don't have access to the book.

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

this sounds fun, are you going to be looking to fill specific tropes?  i.e the Savage hunter, the redeemed villain, the femme fatal?

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

The system is a fairly good introduction to the storyteller system in general. I actually did not think so many people would be familiar with adventure, and this can be a good learning experience for those who are not.
Troupes are optional. Feel free to explore your own characters, or draw on troupes whatever your preference. My only stipulation is that characters are true to the pulp genre.
This is a solid description of many of the conventions:

It's fairly long though so feel free to skim

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

I'd be interested. I don't know the game system, but I don't suppose it would be that difficult to learn the ropes.

How 'heroic' should the Cloak's friends be? Presumably they shouldn't be as capable as he was?

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

I like the genre, but don't know White Wolf. Sounds simple enough though.

Mark me as interested.

Re: Pulp Action Game: Interest Check

The cloaks friends have made a name for themselves in their own right. This could be as accomplished detectives, dynamic daredevils, world traveling adventurers, genius scientists, etc. The uniting factors are extreme skill or ability, and an unshakable moral code.
