the Drangeon

I was thinking about a fantasy campaign where dragons are extinct, but within their corpses different evil overlords have built extensive dungeons that use the dragon's remains as antennae to collect magic power.
This gives them a huge advantage, as the setting would be relatively low on magic.

I usually don't like "over the top" concepts, but I had this idea browsing games in this forum, and the dungeon crawl would be less "hack and slash" and more "interact and investigate".

I haven't yet decided on a game system, but the ones I'm more comfortable with at the moment are D&D 5th, and Apocalypse World.

I'm open to suggestions and criticism.

Re: the Drangeon

'Drangeon' is too awkward.

Try something like 'The Dungeon's A Dragon'

Re: the Drangeon

I agree that sounds much better.

But then there won't be a DRANGEON MASTER!

Ok, it's silly...

Re: the Drangeon

You know if I was in the game the first thing I would do is find my own dragon corpse or take over the smallest one I could find and use it to give me magics lol

Then use the bones and blood soaked soil and scales and everything to gather up into one sight building a big tower or the like to draw in all the dragons power and release it into the world to give people there power hehe

In reply to the_Cava (msg # 1):

What is the role of the PCs? Evil overloads, crusading knights, profiteering adventurers?

Re: the Drangeon

I actually think this is a really cool concept, and actually think the "Drangeon" pun is fun in a lighthearted sort of way. I'd be very interested if this got off the ground, particularly using either 5e or Dungeon World . . . which is what it sounds like you're leaning towards anyway.

Re: the Drangeon

The PCs would be profiteering adventurers, mostly. Maybe an organized guild that exploits, more than helping, the various duchies, marches and baronies. But the work would be hard, a single dungeon may take various expeditions, and attract the overlord's attention in the meantime, so sponsoring an expedition is a double-edged deal for the authorities.

The "drangeons" would be very few, and only generated by dragons of legendary sizes, and it would be almost impossible to find one "vacant". The overlords would be very old, most of them liches, but the magic power of the drangeon is strongly tied to the place, so those "drangeon keepers" would very rarely leave their lairs.

There would be strange gears around which this world moves, and one of the driving points of the campaign will be to find our what they are. As magic is limited, spellcasting characters will have to follow a couple special rules, but they will also be central to the development of the campaign.

By end of this week I'll be posting the link to the game, and it's almost certainly going to be D&D 5e.
