Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

As a long time experienced DM i wanted to test the waters and see what kind of interest i would draw here. Basically, i have already put a lot of time into this campaign and before i go any farther, i want to see what kind of interest I'll draw and who would or will want to play.

Let me know what you think.

The year is 423 SC
2 years after the fall of Paladine and Tahkisis.

War on the Horizon, is a campaign that deals with the how the world of Krynn is affected after two of its major deities fall from grace. The power vacuum that has been left in the wake of the missing gods has created an unstable atmosphere that could threaten to destroy the entire world.

Enjoy the spoiler and once again let me know who's interested.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
War is coming. . .

It’s been two years since the death of the Dark Queen; Tahkisis.
Two years since the Platinum God, Paladine descended as a mortal.
And two long years that the mortals of Krynn have been dealing with the loss of two of their Gods. . .

The situation could not be worse.

On the Mainland of Ansalon,
The Solamnic Knights are facing their darkest days ever, as corruption from within threatens to destroy the once proud knighthood.

Now a dark humanoid force led by a mysterious creature known only as Ankhar, is leading his horde on a killing spree across all of Solamnia.

Meanwhile in Solanthus, the Solamnic Knights under the command of Lord Marshall General Tardainus, have been driven out by the Solanthus Liberation Army. The SLA, being founded by the merchants and lower class members of the city, has formed their own military force driving the nobility and Knights out of the city.

In addition The Knights of Neraka have been facing their own internal issues; now that the Lord of the Night has declared his faction the only TRUE real faction of Dark Knights, and anyone not with him is against him and thereby subject to be hunted. This action has split the Knighthood right down the middle as the Lord of the Night tries desperately to return the failing knighthood back to the old ways in the wake of the death of their patron Goddess.

And as all of this transpires a powerful Dark Knight has risen above the ranks of the Knights of Neraka.
Pirivan Ditrivus, claiming to be one of the mortal born twin sons of Tahkisis, has gone so far as to reclaim Storm’s Keep. His sole missions . . .  bring back his mother!

And now it seems that the Wizards of High Sorcery have been keeping their own secrets as well. Secrets that could bring about the end of the entire order itself.

And as if all of this wasn’t bad enough, the one thing . . . the one person, that could save the entire world is being hunted by the forces of Morgion. However its not who anyone thinks it is. The Noble and Beautiful Lady Mya Plainswind, a skilled diplomat and peacekeeper, has gone missing. Presumed captured by the Solanthus Liberation Army.

All of Krynn is ripe for war, the question isn’t when, how or with who the war will break out, the only question is. . . who will survive?

I would be interested in this. I am familiar with the period up to the Chaos War, but not much beyond that. But if you are willing to guide me through any special changes after that, then count me in.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

I think I read just about every DL book up to Dragons of Summer Flame and then stopped.  So I don't know any of the timeline after that but I would be interested in playing this game.

Well with as much interest as we seem to have, i'm going to keep working things up and should have the game up and ready to take RTJ apps very soon. I'm taking full advantage of the Rpol wiki as well.

I'll re post in here as soon as the game is up.

Thanks to everyone who posted interest, you wont be disappointed. :)

In reply to Valthronis (msg # 8):

Interested - my 3.5 dragonlance books are collecting dust since only playing a handful of sessions in RL.

More of an FR guy but find the DL setting intriguing.

Seems interesting.  It's been a long time since I read my Dragonlance books, but I lent them to my girlfriend who was starting to get interested in Fantasy of that level.  Maybe it's time to rejoin that world once again!

The plot elements you list are vast and sweeping - at what level will the PC's be inserted in all this?

Also, what level (diff use of the word) will the PC's be starting?

The PC's will start out at level 6.

and while your right the plot elements are vast and sweeping keep in mind this campaign is intended to go all the way to 20th level and possibly beyond.
(As a side note as well i'll be using some form of mass combat system as well: to be determined)
So while your right on one hand, keep in mind the campaign is designed to for the pc's to go ALL - the - Way

Okay, you answered the game-level question ("6, going toward 20"), but not the plot-level question - how will the PC's be inserted into these epic themes you describe?  The world is in upheaval, sweeping social and political forces changing the face of everything that was - how will the PC's matter, at least to start?  Do you have some pre-existing ideas, or will it be more "sandbox" re how they act upon their world.

Just curious what your thinking is re that Q.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

I'm hoping it's something that will be built around the histories we work out for our own characters.  One of the things I liked the most about the original cast was how many different backgrounds they had and how well they were woven together.  Tanis and Flint's storylines alone were awesome even without adding in the rest of the cast.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

Ok, Here's how it goes down,

Your PC's will start out at a Solamnic Encampment, filled with Knights, Mercs, healers, mages and refugees. From there, your PC's will get a central "Hook" to go to Solanthus and investigate the disappearance of the Lady Plainswind.

After that, what direction you go, and how you shape things to come, and how they unfold from there, will solely depend on your PC's and the decisions they make. Not that any one action / decision is good or bad; or one better than another.

For example,
at one point a nearby town may be under immediate threat from Ankhars horde. theis information you just came by, and said town has no idea they are about to be squashed. But on the other hand, you have a very real chance at rescuing the Lady Plainswind.

Your choice; while not good or bad one way or another; will effect how other things unfold down the line.

One of the themes here too (keep in mind) is that in war, you cant be everywhere at once; especially with so much going on. So occasionally the PC's will be faced with the knowledge that they knew something was going to happen, and simply couldn't do anything about it.

And yes, backgrounds always play a heavy roll, in all of my games. I'm a firm believer in using a PC's background against him for the development of the character.
Bwahahahahahaha. (just teasing, but yes i do use backgrounds in all my games)

Hope this helps.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

I'm generally interested in Dragonlance.  Are you open to Pathfinder material or have you given thought to just using PF in place of 3.5?  I've never enjoyed the class design of 3.5.

I do like Pathfinder as opposed to 3.5 as well, but I'm relatively flexible.  I can go back to 3.5 if necessary.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

I only have a few of the PF books, plus all of the Dragonlance books are 3.5 in design by nature. So I've never really made the jump to PF. At some point i'll consider it, but at this time i'm going to stick with 3.5. What can i say i'm a traditionalist. And my understanding is that PF and 3.5 are so close in nature anyway that most people consider it 3.75 anyway: so the jump isn't really that far. However some of that would require me to get and read through all the books, and to be honest i have the time to RUN a game, not try to convert everything i have from 3.5 to PF. Finally my physical library contains a plethora of 3.5 books, that i love.

Sorry :(

However i guarantee with my game that regardless of the system being used, you'll still enjoy the ride.
I promise :)

My 2 copper worth, but I would personally prefer that we stick to 3.5.

That being said I can't wait for the game to start.

Re: Coming Soon, New Dragonlance Game (3.5)

It's significantly less work to just back convert some PF versions of the classes and run under the 3.5 system.  It mostly serves to shore up the crappy classes or the classes that no one takes longer than it takes to move into a PrC.

I'm still getting things organized, but i should hopefully have the advert up by the end of the week.

Or sooner depending on how things go. I'm glad to see so many people interested though, should make things interesting come character time.
