[IC] Low-level god game

I've seen lots of god games on RPoL, and it is a great style of game for play-by-post. But what is we don't put full cosmic power into the hands of the players? Maybe something slightly less powerful?

I have a setting that has been bouncing around in my head since about 2008-2009. In the setting, there are mages of great power who roam the earth, shaping the landscape as they see fit, and bringing about powerful effects with but a single word and a wave of the hand. So, I propose this: start a game along the lines of a god game, but start with an already-extant world and crank the power up to 11, instead of over 9000.

As you might guess, questions, comments, critiques, amusing anecdotes, and the like are both welcome and encouraged.

Re: [IC] Low-level god game

Sounds interesting. My most pressing question is how you would adjudicate that power level. Would it be self-enforced, in that the players should just try to keep the power done? Would there be wrath of Ao, if a mage accidentally oversteps what Ao believes is the max power level? Or do you actually have a rule idea to handle it.

Traditional god games are easy. The only power limit is "Only one act per ACT". This might be harder, unless everyone happens to be on the same page.

You could check some of the New Gods of Mankind rules and see if they would help?

Re: [IC] Low-level god game

Well, my initial idea would be Wrath of Ao. The lore explains that these mages are only able to achieve so much with their spells (which is still a lot), and that the magic will "misbehave" if they try to overstep their bounds. I was hoping to eventually establish a ruleset that would pseudo-quantify what you could and could not get away with based on a few stats. But that might be a bit heavy for a genre of game that's designed to be free-form.

Re: [IC] Low-level god game

That sounds awesome. Should someone make such a game, I would be interested.

Re: [IC] Low-level god game

All right. I've seen a decent amount of interest in this, and it if my understanding of these games is correct, it won't require a whole lot of work from the GM. I'll start the game soon and post a link, and the game will officially begin on Saturday.

This sounds really cool. But never played before. Any chance of letting a newbie join and showing him the ropes?

Re: [IC] Low-level god game

God games are mega-easy. If you have leanings toward creative writing, you're good to go. There aren't any rules posted yet (will be taken care of later tonight). However, feel free to read up on the rules and send an RTJ when I post the rules. For the sake of convenience, I'll be posting the link now. It's here:

UPDATE: Rules have been posted, and the game is officially open. Game starts this weekend.
