IC: Kingdom Hearts!

Found a request for this on the Wanted GM thread. If enough players are interested I'll run this setting in my game system. Just so players know what they are signing up for,

My game system needs test players so I looked for a request that was based on setting to run to hopefully gain some players. Additionally, I figure on telling you about me as a GM since the last players I had seemed to expect other things (I think they expected modern not-quite-railroading style) from me then I was giving (I'm more old school sandboxish).

I am better at FTF games so any volunteers for a co-GM will considered as well.

My GM style is to let the players have complete control of what they do, no handholding, direction signs, nudging, or railroading. There is story but I build it up based on what the players do instead of trying to get the players involved in a predetermined story (one of my campaigns started from a random encounter which occurred only because I forgot my bestiary). I also make the world continue to grow even when the players are gone, (so attacking, then retreating, then returning, will find the defenders have reinforced and are more prepared. etc) I don't do WoW style games. Also PC failure is possible, you will have to work for victory, though it will be somewhat easily attainable.

The base system is Roads and Ruins and I will be making the KH character options based on the guide books for KH 1 & 2. (The spells available will be those in the games, etc.)

These base rules have mostly mechanics but not very many character options yet. I'll add setting specific character options to the game if I get enough interest to start it. Players are encouraged to ask about any character options they want, though don't expect to get away with a bunch of munchkin stuff.  I'll also modify the char gen to fit closer to the games.

Story-wise, Sora never existed, so the keyblade on the Destiny Islands chose someone else. The players all live in the same world (but not Destiny Islands) which will soon be attacked. This world has it's own keyblade, or multiple depending on how players want to do this. Keyblades will still be incredibly rare, but as we saw in KH2, there are multiple of them.

Thanks for contacting me via rMail from my request in the GMs Wanted thread, I appreciate that. First, your link doesn't appear to be working, so I couldn't analyze that information yet, but based on everything else I've read I'm still interested.

I'd be willing to help with the play-testing as well if you need someone to help with that.

What do you think of it?

The character options once posted I'm sure will give more perspective. I'll have to make a few pages with the character options split by setting I guess. I have some work done on it for running Mass Effect as well.

Well, I can say this right off, Rolling things will be not a basic thing... Even I would need help getting the hang of it.

I saw KH then immediatly passed this thread up, several times. Then I noticed it was you. And then I noticed you want to use that system you tossed at me. Now I am interested. Send me an rmail when the game is ready. I will make time to rereview the system.

In any case, I am checking in. This weekend I will make my final decision whether to start the game. I'm kinda on the fence right now, though if any more people express interest then I definitely will.

If anyone has questions feel free to ask.

(it looks like I will have to rewrite the core roll segment for clarity at the very least, as it is a rather simple dice pool mechanic, but oh well)

So, just how closely will it follow the games. Or are you just taking the premise?

Then again All I remember is collecting ship parts, killing dark things and fighting bosses. AND THE FRICKEN AUTO AIM. Never played more then the first game. Well I remember some key major story points, little else.

I figure on starting at the beginning, except as an alt universe where Sora doesn't exist, and so someone else got that keyblade instead.

The players will start on their own world and the issue of players wielding keyblades will be discussed and decided prior to start based on player feedback on some options I'll post.

PCs will visit familiar places and faces.

Not sure what you mean by auto aim though.

The game would auto target an enemy...it sucked..i think if someone wants a keyblade they should get one..but it should reflect their character and they should only get one..no dual weilding

I played till the end of the first game. The Auto aim got me killed so much...

As for keyblades, Idk how rare would they be considered? Are they so significant that more then 1 person has to have one? If those worlds are as populous as ours then less then 1 in seven billion have one. That is pretty dang rare. For what it is worth, the keyblade is not a must for me, even if I have a weaker character.

That reminds me. I remember multiple keyblades in the game. Could only Sora use them, or is it just because he was the main playable character and no other keyblade users were in the story yet?

Either way I am still interested. Just things to ponder I recon.

Actually Riku, Roxas(Soras nobody), King Micky, Kairi and (rumored) Ansem and Cid the magician could all weild keyblades

And in the Keyblade Wars there were Millions of keyblade weilders

I take it I missed more then just a couple games?

I am comfortable playing just about any character class, though I seem to prefer a few archtypes. So It does not really matter to me.

Keyblades are basically intelligent magic weapons. As such I consider them as having been crafted. They can choose to bond with someone, but this bonding has range limits to where the keyblade currently is, so a keyblade in one world is going to choose someone in that world.

As for duel wielding, I have special rules already for dual soul weapons (basically, the benefits and damage is split between the two, so a pair is roughly the same power as a single.) and soul weapons is what I'll be basing the keyblades on. Though given some of my ideas for duel weapons, it may not be a big issue, as I have been looking for a way to make duel weapons viable without simply doubling attacks. So I have a few options that I hadn't decided on yet (thus why it isn't mentioned in the test rules yet).

Personally, I loved the the auto aim. It wasn't perfect but it was much then others I've used, though the camera was a bit to close when locked on.

Keyblades are rare, very rare in most places, but Sora was not the only one to use them. In the two major games, Sora, King Mickey, Kairi, and eventually Riku (I believe) had them (so at least 3-4), plus the three unknown folks in the end video.

Roxas could as well, but in my head canon, Roxas used the same one as Sora, since Roxas was Sora's other half the bond connected the keyblade to both of them. Roxas got the second keyblade from [a character in 358/2 days] then Riku took one from him when he captured Roxas. That is just head canon though.

I have decided I will indeed run the game. I will set it up this weekend and will then start posting setting content and character options and such. I hope to start playing after a week of setup, at least for the little tutorial segments I have planned anyway, but that really depends on the speed of posting.

I still really do not care whether I get a keyblade or not, so long as it is not keybladers stealing the show from everyone.

It is never too late to show interest. I as a GM prefer slightly larger groups on PBP (keeps things moving easier), so any new folks are still likely to find an open slot.
