O' Magic 8-ball (IC)

So I've been pondering after playing with the magic 8 ball to annoy a munchkin player I had once:

What kind of interest would there be in a game where all action was resolved by asking questions to a magic 8 ball?

Could I go for this?

"Outlook good."

I might be interested, depending on other factors (genre, expected post rate, expected degree of seriousness (or lack thereof)).

Re: O' Magic 8-ball (IC)

If I run it:
Genre's up for discussion, although I'm leaning toward Fantasy or Victorian due to the amusement of the game being built around 'fortune telling'. Post rate is something I never set in stone, for philisophical reasons I won't get into. Seriousness... Well, I don't know. I've been in games that run the gamut. I can't do super serious on the most part. I like ironic humor and hidden 'easter egg' type humor. I think if I were to run it I'd want to set some ground rules for what sort of questions you can't be asked.  Murder hobos are out for example (because it rarely makes sense to outright ask if you can kill someone without warning).

Can't answer for anyone else, but these details certainly should be addressed.

Azraile thats 1/2 the fun. It leaves room for various circumstances. Just imagine combat if everyone keeps getting check again later.

Could be interesting depending on how you handle it.

Most Likely For steampunk / It is Decidedly So for Tesla punk.

Action - "I try to land the biplane now"

8 Ball - "Don't count on it"

What is the difference? I have never heard of Tesla, so to google I guess. All that being said I cannot even remember all the possible answers in a magic 8 ball lol.

What, yes no maybe ask again later? Wikipedia says 20 possible answers suggesting a larger then obvious die or multiple dies in the ball.

Different balls have different answers - the original one had 8 sides, later ones used more less sides depending on what it was made for and who made it.

One is steam, the other is electricity. Granted since it'd be Tesla-punk it wouldn't be strictly the technology he actually worked on. There might be stuff like 'Mag-Lev' trains that don't go on rails, rather levitate over ley lines. As an example.

Pretty sure the one through the dice roller uses 20 answers. That's the one I'd be using for the game anyway. Speaking of which, if any moderators are watching this, is it actually possible to configure the diceroller to only use the 8 Ball?

"It is certain"

In other words, yes, it is possible, just like setting any other kind of special roll to be the default.

Re: O' Magic 8-ball (IC)

Alright, so one teensy last question: Rating... What do you guys think. It's very difficult for me to run a game that's not adult, but I could see it for this particular one depending on what the people want.

Re: O' Magic 8-ball (IC)

Well, like I said, for this one I could actually see a non adult rating. It just depends on themes we want to explore for what the rating will actually be. There's the more dark social commentary victorian, and then there's the lighter 'oh neat! look at all the gadgets'.

I wouldn't mind either one. If adult is more comfortable that is fine with me. Some people will not join adult games no matter what though. It's really up to you.

I feel your pain, I would love to hand off a game to someone, it might get deleted though. Right now I do not think I can run a second game on top of everything.

As for age rating, I really do not care, just depends on why it would be defined as adult I guess.

I can live with that. Right now in my pokemon game I almost went adult. But I felt mature could handle my intent well enough.

I prefer to let players imaginations fill in the gaps so to speak.

Well, at the moment I'm researching victorian lingo to incorporate into the mix. Still there's potential for enough to slip through mature's probably good enough.
