Some Ideas (DC Universe and Epic Fantasy)

It’s been a good deal of time since my last role playing game, but I’ve been in the mood to set something up. What I’ve been thinking is something Superhero related. Basically, I’ve got a few ideas, here and there.

A DC-Universe role play, based in one of a couple of groups: the player-characters would be new costumed characters, joining/creating one of these groups. Either a group of Teen Titans, established in the face of a crisis. What crisis, exactly, I haven’t pinned down, just yet. My second idea would be a group called the Ravagers. Essentially, an adolescent version of the Suicide Squad or the Prime Earth “Justice League of America”; i.e. a group of costumed characters formed by the United States Government, for… less tasteful adventures: special ops, but, with masks.
“Teen Titans” or “The Ravagers”: Please, give your comments, questions, concerns, etc. etc. etc.

I do have some other ideas, but, right now, I’m not as passionate about them as I am about the above two. There’s a dungeon punk / arcane punk epic fantasy I’ve been wanting to, for a while now. It’s what I’m basing my current “project” on. I think a role play would a good way to help generate some inspiration. What is Dungeon/Arcane Punk? Basically, you take Clarke’s Third Law and invert it. Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from technology. It’s sword and sorcery with technomagic. Think Final Fantasy VI, the Eberron Setting in Dungeons & Dragons, and other such things. I could formulate a plot for the setting within a short time. I love deconstructive/reconstructive takes on Epic Fantasy, as it is: the classic band of heroes against the evil empire; just, thoroughly analyzed.

“Epic Fantasy: Dungeon/Arcane Punk”: This is less on my list to do, but if people are into it, I’d do it. Please, give your comments, questions, concerns, etc. etc. etc.

Forgive me, because it has been a while. But, if any of these sound appealing to you, I’d like to hear it. If interest accrues, I’ll write up some more and get started on the actual game.

I, personally, prefer superhero stuff. I'm also very much a fan of Suicide Squad. It'd also be interesting to play in a group trying to carve a niche in a universe that seems to already have most of those spots filled. How does one compete with those other guys?

If you haven't seen it yet, I'd take a look at the Young Justice animated series.  It's DC and similar in tone to what you're looking for ala' specops superheroes. Even if it's not it's a great series to watch!

I loved Young Justice, actually. It's the reason I'm a DCU Fan.

"The Ravagers" would be less like Young Justice, however. The basic idea is a unique Earth in the Multiverse, to start. Similar to how the Justice League of America and Suicide Squad were formed in the New 52, the Ravagers would be a group formed by the US Government. Closer to Suicide Squad than the New 52 JLA. Amanda Waller and Steve Trevor recruit adolescent heroes and villains in response to some crisis. Haven't decided what it should be, just yet, though. My inspiration for it is, as I've mentioned the Suicide Squad, as well as the Injustice League in the Forever Evil arc. I love Young Justice, but I'd like to take on the concept with varying levels of morality.

You dig?
