IC- semi-sandbox VtM20 game with multiple, seperate coteries

I am going to be starting up a VtM game in the near future.

I had an idea to deal with a larger than normal group of players.  I thought of possibly giving the players the option of being in one of 2 coteries, or being alone at the beginning of the game.

it would allow players to work toward separate goals, while still allowing players to interact.

I know there would be possible timeline problems, etc, with players running at different speeds. There would have the an understood conceit of connecting times even if it doesn't quite fit.

Id also allow for players to join into coteries, or shift, due to player drop out and other issues.

Would players be interested in playing in a game like that?  Or would it be better just to allow a larger than normal coteries of 7 or 8 or more players?

IC- semi-sandbox VtM20 game with multiple, seperate cabals

Is this a mage game with cabals or a vampire game with coteries?

I ask because the interaction styles tend to differ.  Also possible to have different sect loyalty.

I have never seen the membership count of a coterie matter much, anywhere from 3 to 10 works.  That said if you are making a vampire game two coteries is almost always a better plan.  Particularly for non neonates that may want goals beyond simple survival.
