War of the Worlds

Ive been watching the 1953 movie & 1988 series, "War of the Worlds" (yes, im old) and thought it would make a great game setting - a group of scientists & military personnel vs. the reawakened aliens who wish to pick up where they left off after the 1953 invasion.

I have two ideas for the game.

1. Pick up where season 1 ended: I hated Season two of the series so it would pick up a year after season 1 ended where they made contact with the Synth from the planet Qar'To.

2. Total reboot: Set the game in modern times (as opposed to 1988-89 of the series). The aliens awaken but events will differ from the series and I will throw away the "Selective Amnesia" idea and the invasion is common knowledge but such a long time ago - like Pearl Harbor.

As far as gaming system it will be games I have knowledge on - Palladium System, D6 System, D20 Modern or Freeform.

Questions & Comments welcome!

War of the Worlds

Wow, it's been forever since I've seen any War of the Worlds (though I have listened to the radio show a few times recently).  Love the idea.  Palladium definitely has a few different ways that you could go with, but I can't remember enough about d6/d20 Modern to say if they would be a better fit.  For Palladium, I'd either go Heroes/Aliens Unlimited (maybe with a splash of Ninjas & Superspies) or a Rifts core, minus the magic.

War of the Worlds

Glad to have found someone who remembers the old movie and show!

So far, im leaning towards Palladium only because of the ISP system would work out great with the Mor-Taxians (the Aliens in WotW) mental abilities - they were described as "Mental Giants" in the movie and their war machines ran on brain impulses according to the 1st episode of the 1988 series.

 Too doe nakotae!

You might want to look at Savage Worlds for an extremely simple but flexible system for something like this. Palladium's fun, but only because of the settings - the actual lack-of-system rules are gloriously awful. ^_^

I would second the use of Savage Worlds for this, maybe using idea from Savage Rifts.

With the new version (Savage Worlds Adventure Edition) just available to KS backers, it seems a good time to set things up for it. :)

Also, I would vote the Modern Reboot. :)

I have heard of Savage Worlds but I don't have the rules - that why I suggested the rules I know & am familiar with.

Is there an online resource for Savage Worlds? I'm wiling to check them out.

So I see there is "some" interest...Despite not having these Savage Worlds rules, would you mind the other 4 systems I mentioned in the beginning of the post? If not, its all good - it was just an idea...They pop in the brain every so often.

War of the Worlds

I always thought a post-WotW dieselpunk setting would be cool.
