IC: Good Society - A Jane Austen RPG

I'm curious what sort of interest there would be for the following game:

Good Society: A Jane Austen RPG
Romance. Scandal. Manners.
https://storybrewersroleplaying.com/good-society/

Good Society is a collaborative roleplaying game that seeks to capture the heart, and the countenance, of Jane Austen’s work.
It is a game of elegant balls, estates, sly glances, and turns about the garden. At least on the surface.  Underneath this, just as in Austen’s own novels, it is a game of social ambition, family obligation and breathtaking, heart-stopping longing.

Play the type of characters that captured your imagination in Austen’s books.
Create your own regency character, from a wealthy heir who falls in love with the aloof new arrival, to a charming socialite bent on ruining the reputation of their rivals. Exploit your advantages, connections, and family influence to achieve your secret desire – all while jealously guarding your good name.

Not only that, players in Good Society hold the power to control the story itself, and change it in their favour.
Take control of influential connections, create rumour and scandal, and spend tokens to orchestrate balls, carriage accidents, and even marriages.

I'm going to guess that few players will have the book(s).  I've read all the novels and seen all the miniseries/movies, so where does that leave me?

I have the PDF (just came out last month) and all play materials. The physical book has not yet hit shelves.

Players don't need the book really at all, just at least a familiarity with Austen's styles and themes that you could get by watching one film adaptation. The mechanics are intentionally simple enough for newcomers to rpgs and made with an eye to be played online, yet evocative to promote great, dramatic themes.

For those more often inclined toward freeform play, this game would actually be a wonderful step into storygames. It's diceless and all about good scenes, dialogues, monologues, inner conflict, rumors, scandals, and reputations rather than stats or dice. To boot, every cycle of play ends with an epistolary phase where players dictate written letters between characters.

@badpenny your Austen experience probably means you're perfectly positioned to have a splendid time with the game. I've seen some of the films and read none of the novels, but even so, when I get a chance, I plan to run this game for some local friends who have never roleplayed but would love to explore/create new Austen-style stories (including my SO).

Jonathan Strange stayed with me a very long time after I read that giant of a novel, so I'd be all for a game of Pride, Prejudice and Practical Magics. :)

I'd be quite interested. As I don't have a copy of the rules, will you be able to guide players through the system?

I should be delighted to partake of this fine roleplaying entertainment, of which I possess a copy.

@airellian: Indeed! Alas, Pride, Prejudice, & Practical Magics is not yet released. I am personally intrigued by Sense, Sensibility & Swordsmanship.

@12th Doctor: Yes, if I ran this game, I would guide players through the system. It is quite lean and intelligent. (No guarantees of course. I'm not sure of my pbp capacity this season).

I'm also quite lean and intelligent, and look forward to our continued correspondence, and should there be a lengthy delay in posting I'll likely mention boiled potatoes.

This sounds most diverting.

If there were room for one more, I would enjoy joining, if that's alright.

I'd love to see how a not-quite-freeform game pans out.

As an update, I contacted the designers and they raised the idea that some elements of play may be tricky in pbp, such as extensive dialogue filling most scenes (which would be slow in pbp, especially if between more than 2 players), and the use of tokens is meant to interrupt and events as they're happening, which is a bit harder to do with more substantive posts.

The reputation, rumors, and epistolary/monologue elements would excel in pbp. The other aspects are just as difficult with many other games, so I am still interested in trying it out.
