IC: Star Trek game...

Space: the final frontier.
These are the voyages of the starship Challenger.
Its continuing mission: to explore strange new worlds,
to seek out new life and new civilizations,
to boldly go where no one has gone before.

“Can anyone remember when we used to be explorers?” —Jean-Luc Picard

This is a Prime-timeline Star Trek game that uses the Star Trek Adventures rules. The game will be set either in the late TOS era (ie after the movies c. 2301), or after the Dominion War (c. 2375)

Play will focus on Starfleet personnel aboard the USS Challenger, a starship assigned to Starbase 234 in the Beta Quadrant. The captain will be an NPC indirectly controlled by the players. The PCs will be department heads aboard the Challenger. If the group wants, extra PCs can be created as department heads of the Starbase and/or lower-deck crew members.

I’m checking interest and trying to see which era players would prefer. So if you’re interested, what’s your vote for era?

I am very interested in a post-Dominion setting, myself. Seeing where things go from there excites me. :D

I'd be interested in trying out the system.

Sounds good to me!  I'd prefer the "Lost Years" (2301), but either would work. :)

Oops, I forgot to post a preference. I'm for Lost Years, too. ^_^

With the Operations pdf just dropping to folks, I would love to get in on a game like this. While Lost Years or the default timeline would be my preference, I would definitely be open for any other period. :)

If there's enough interest, maybe two games.

One as pitched above set in the Lost Era (between TOS movies and TNG).

Two a post-Dominion War exploration game. Maybe a Luna-class or Intrepid-class ship just seeing what's still out there on the frontier. Mostly new species and getting away from the relative safety of the Federation.

You could always take things even further into the post-Dominion era, and borrow ideas from the stillborn Star Trek: Final Frontier animated series or another show that never happened. Plenty of room to play, regardless. ^_^

I was always a big proponent of the proposed "Captain Sulu" series pitched back in the 90s. So "lost years" would be great.  But then again I've always been a DS9 fan... :D

I suspect that the TNG/DS9 era is most familiar to potential players, and it also opens up a lot of things that wouldn't be available in the prior ones, so that tends to be my default preference/suggestion.

I'm a bit curious as to the reason for setting the captain as a semi-NPC though. This system is well set up to have a player captain and XO that don't dominate everything, and making them NPCs actually cuts out a significant role for the players.
