I just came upon an old convention module that I ran. The concept of the module is that everyone brought a different character to the table. As a result of a spell gone wrong, the characters were shuffled and reassigned.

Basically the characters found themselves in the wrong bodies. The adventure was to find a way to reverse the magic. However some of the characters might not want to swap back as they get used to their new lives.

Originally, the cast of characters included a Red Wizard and his slave, a princess and her knight protector, a barbarian queen and a minotaur.

Of course, the players will bring their own characters.

Would there be interest in this game? I would run it using dnd 5th edition. It would also be run as an adult game dus to possible adult themes.

I like this idea. Would the characters be swapped at random, or would there be some kind of method to the madness?

Random swaps. However there may be more swaps before everyone find their way back home.

Your character might have a secret that they want to escape from their old life. Maybe you are hunted by assassins or betroved in an arranged marriage, etc.

Or maybe you need to get back to your old life. You were about to take the throne of your own land. You enjoyed your old life. Or the thought of being trapped as someone else is a nightmare to you.

There would be a couple different tactics in creating your initial character.

1. Build your character based off the personality you wish to play.

2. Build the character knowing it will be your traveling companion (at least physically) and you design it as someone you wish to travel with.

3. Build your character with the intent of making life 'interesting' for the player who gets your character. (Building it as a helpless damsel in distress or a hulking monstrous brute)

All depends on what you want to get out of the game.
