Interest Check: The Dark Eye

Checking to see if there would be any interest in a game of The Dark Eye RPG (Fifth Edition-English Version). If I run it I would take a maximum of 5 PCs and run a combination of official modules in conjunction with my own adventure. All released official supplements such as the Compendium and Warring Kingdoms would be allowed. Posting rate would be 1/day, 5 days/week, and the game will require involved roleplay. A copy of the rules will also be required, though prior experience is not.

For those not in the know The Dark Eye 5e is the latest edition of Germany's most popular RPG and earlier editions were used to power such classic PC games as the Realms of Arkania Series, Drakensang, & Blackguards. The most current edition was released a few years back in Germany in German and subsequently also translated & released in English. The game world/setting is low powered medieval fantasy and the rules reflect this; magical items are extremely rare and characters must make do with their own training's and abilities.

The game thus has a large skill & professions list allowing many types of characters, from warriors, knights, ladies in waiting, burglars, pastry chefs, farmers, wizards, hunters and many more. Character generation is done via points rather than classes, with professions used as suggestions/recommendations. However if I do run this game I will require professions to be mandatory to provide structure, but of-course you will still have plenty of points left over to customize characters.

There is also a free quickstart available there to tell you the basics of the rules.

Note: This is only an interest check for now, to see if there is a player base here.

Will the quickstart be sufficient to play?

I am interested in playing and have all the PDFs from the kickstarter.  I also have not read the modules.  I am not very familar with the earlier 20 year game history and I have an Excel jig to make character creation easier.

I have some interest in this. I have all the kickstarter materials. I'd like to potentially GM it at some point, so playing in the system would greatly help with familiarizing myself with it.

I would be interested in this game.  I have the book and materials from the Kickstarter effort and would love to learn this system with others doing the same.

The question isn't if there's interest, the actual question is are you committed and can accommodate everyone interested?

Seems there is interest enough, along with most people showing interest having the rules. :)

The quickstart would be enough to play, however the quickstart does not contain rules for character generation, so anyone with only the quickstart would have to go with one of the pre-made characters there.

German version would be fine as long as you can communicate well in english.

Would people be comfortable with a player posting rate of 1/day; 5 days/week (these days can include weekends)? My own posting rate would be around 3-4/week, but the aforementioned player posting rate would allow for more Player to Player roleplay and keep the game healthy.

Note I'm not a setting scholar by any means and don't expect anyone to be, but I will try to remain as true to the Aventurian setting as possible and expect that from players. I may also make any changes where I feel the need though, but they likely won't be drastic.

Also I won't be using maps. Theater of the mind only.

I should not have an issue with the posting rate but I won't post out of order in combat.  I'm more a post every other day guy but I'll step it up a bit.

When you say you want to stay as true to the Aventurian setting as possible are we talking about the different social class restrictions?  Swords and more sophisticated weapons restricted to knights?  Wizards and Priests having their own court system?  Al'Gebra limited to "Arabic" type cultures and areas bordering them?  Are we limiting characters to a set subgroup of backgrounds or limited Geographic area?

I can post every day (that is my usual rate), I can slow down to every other day, but slower than that becomes too slow for me and I ose focus.

I can plan do 1 post per day, definitely one every other day. My only caveat is that I have a lot going on in the next two weeks with a lot of appointments and company, etc., so I might lag a tad in the beginning if we were to start up during that time frame.
