OF MONSTERS AND MEN: ADVENTURES ON THE S.S. EDEN

They say that, long ago, there was a planet called Earth. Monsters and humans lived separately, without bonds or relations, in relative peace. But, one day, a human killed a monster child in fear or ignorance, and the war that broke out spread across the globe to the point where Earth was unlivable.

Humans and monsters, for the most part, knew they had done something terribly wrong. Though some continued the war in hopes of there being a victor, most set to work helping scientists in whatever way they could. Together, they built space ships designed to be self-sustaining and sent them off into space, in hopes of finding a new home for monsters and humans alike.

Many, many years have passed since then, and the space craft we call home - the S.S. Eden - will likely never find a planet. That's okay by me. I have bigger things to worry about. You know how humans and monsters live separately for the most part here?

Well, Humans live on the upper floors of Eden, organized by job. Monsters live on the lower levels of Eden, organized by strength classes - that is, E through S.

I entered college hoping to be one of the lucky few selected to be a "Tamer" - someone who works with a bonded monster partner, bonded to them by an invention called the Chime. Connected to a special collar worn by the monster, when the chime is rung and a request or order given out, the monster must comply and do as the request states.

I had hoped to get a monster partner of reasonable strength and put monsters and humans on the same level once more, like in the stories and comic books of old.

There's just one problem.

On the day we were sent to find our monster partner, monster rebels attacked. They believe monsters are the superior race and should be treated as such. After a great struggle, I got a collar on the leader and made him my partner. He has no choice but to follow my commands now. We're partners, I guess.

And class has only gotten stranger since then.
