As Freehold enters its 7th consecutive year, we are once again looking for players who will bring a bit of new life to the game, and who will make our cast even more fun and diverse. If you enjoy Pathfinder's downtime system, if you like being part of a thriving community (both IC and OOC), and if you want fascinating, unique, and meaningful challenges and experiences that leave your character's lasting mark on the game world, then Freehold is the right place.

Don't be fooled by our post count; we archive threads when our plots move forward, and have tens of thousands backed up, plus more activity behind the PM screen. This a living campaign where we encourage people to really explore the aspects of character roles that are often left to collect dust in a typical dungeon crawl. Clerics and paladins don't just smite the undead or heal their allies, but also preach sermons, maintain temples, conduct funerals and marriages, and interpret the will of their gods in a day-to-day fashion. Wizards actually get to put their research skills and more utilitarian magic to use. Druids have a job to do besides casting spells while wild shaped. Fighters aren't simply the party's front line, but keepers of law and symbols of justice who protect the common folk. PCs are more than "adventurers;" they are merchants, scholars, artists, politicians, and clergy.

Those who are interested should be aware of a few key points:

1) Freehold's core theme is establishing a life in a growing frontier settlement. Applicants should be invested in this concept, rather than the sort of player who gets quickly bored with roleplaying and needs to seek out danger or trouble. Here, the settlement and its people, trials, and victories are the adventure. No "lone wolf" characters need apply.

2) Freehold is an adult-rated game. We require maturity in handling not only the standard content this rating implies, but also in engaging other sensitive, intersectional topics like disability, mental illness, indigenous cultures, racism, LGBTQIA+ relationships, and more—not because these issues are "for adults only," but because players should confront them like grown-ups. Like it or not, gaming is necessarily a political space, and applicants who demonstrate that they will not interact responsibly with these subjects should expect dismissal.

3) Our dedicated and close-knit group of players holds potential newcomers to a high standard. Interested parties should be looking for and genuinely invested in a very long-term commitment to a complex campaign with a lot of moving parts.
