Firefly-Serenity/Killjoys/Dark Matter Game
This is a game set in the Firefly world, following some two years after the events of the Serenity film. The Serenity RPG system will be used, though knowledge of the system isn't a necessity to play. It is a simple system and can easily be learned.
The game employs elements of the television shows Killjoys and Dark Matter.
The crew is comprised of people who were offered a very simply choice: Be executed for the twisted, degenerate, downright evil scum they were, or be given the chance to do something worthwile with their lives.
Your character is alive because they chose the latter. Newly awakened, the crew have no memories of themselves or their past lives. Who they were is gone. What they are now are bounty hunters working under the authority of the Alliance.
A bunch of former criminals with amnesia being sent out to capture equally wicked individuals would be interesting by itself, but that's just scratching the surface.
The Reavers have been shown to be real to the inhabitants of the Core, shown to be the product of an Alliance experiment in population pacification to the whole 'Verse. The Reaver population has been considerably reduced after their encounter with the Alliance armada but they are far from extinct and have ways of bolstering their numbers. There's no telling how many of them are left out there.
The Alliance is reeling from the greatest PR disaster in governmental history. Political infighting and social unrest are shaking the foundations of power in the Core and the Border planets. Occasionally brutal Alliance crackdowns are only intensifying the rage.
Further out, many an old Browncoat is wearing a sad, smug smile and getting ready for the next stand against tyrrany. There's no shortage of the angry, the young and the dispossessed looking to lash out at someone for their misfortunes and the Alliance has never been a more attractive target.
The whole gorram business has caused a lot of folk to up and move. Wealthy elites are fleeing the Core with their valuables, looking to set up in places where questions aren't asked too much. The belief that the Reavers are gone is leading to an influx towards the Blue Sun system in the hopes that those regions can be more safely exploited. Political and economic unrest has driven a lot of adventurous folk out towards the Rim.
