Pernese Wanted! (Adult Dragonriders of Pern game)
Hello! We're looking for a few sturdy Pernese folk for a brand new Dragonriders of Pern game that's just starting up, called Dragondays: 10th Pass.
From the game info:
When men first settled on Rukbat's third world, and named it Pern, they had taken little notice of the stranger-planet, swinging around its primary in a wildly erratic elliptical orbit...
-- Anne McCaffrey, Dragonflight
This is a game set in Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern universe, with some changes.
It is set well after the end of the last of the primary books, which cover the Ninth Pass; Dragondays is set near the beginning of the Tenth Pass. Around 230 years (or 'turns') have passed since Master Robinton's death and the passing of the Weyrs to the younger generations.
In this game the Ancients' Landing was discovered and AIVAS revealed. However, the computer had been damaged during its long dormancy and its databases corrupted; it ceased to function barely a few days after it was found by the leaders of Benden Weyr and their allies. Most of the truth of the Ancients has been lost, the Red Star was never deflected from its orbit and Thread is still the world's primary threat.
While a few technological advances were gleaned from AIVAS before it died - mostly by the then-Mastersmith, Fandarel - there is no doubt that most of it is a puzzle that the inhabitants of Pern are currently ill-equipped to unravel. The shuttles, partially uncovered, were never made to fly again and are considered a relic from along-dead time. Most folk scorn the idea that these 'buildings' ever flew, considering the tiny breadth of their wings.
The world has moved on and a new Pass has begun. It is time for new wings to take up the challenge against the implacable, hateful Thread...
Players in this game can take on the roles of Weyrbred, Craftbred and Holdbred people. They can be dragonriders or Candidates, Crafters or simple labourers. The game will largely follow canon with adjustments made for a civilisation that hasn't stopped developing. It uses the metre scale for dragon sizes, with the smallest adult green dragons around 18m long and the largest adult golds around 43m long. No dragons grow as large as the gargantuan Ramoth of legend, the Benden mutation allowing such lengths having been watered down over the Ninth Interval.
The books by Todd McCaffrey (and those involving both he and his mother Anne) are disregarded for the purposes of this game.
Please see the RTJ thread in the game itself for more information.
NOTE: While nobody is ever forced into it, there is likely to be sex in this game. It is rated Adult for a reason. If you don't like being in the same game as consensual sexual behaviour between adults, that's cool, but don't apply to join. Just don't bother.
The game forum hosts a wealth of information regarding Pern and the general state of affairs during the time in which this game is set.
The primary locations for the game - Great Cliffs Weyr and Hold - occupy the same site that Southern Hold used to, abandoned for a time during the Ninth Interval and then reclaimed by the northern Weyrs. It is up to the sturdy Pernese folk to make the place mighty once more.
