Until the Stones Weep
It did not begin with the falling star, but it was an ending of a kind. To the north, where the first blazing light struck the mountains, a Kingdom fell to ash. From the remains, the dark spread, a jagged and hungry thing. It was a scourge that consumed the minds of man, those who sought to harness a power from on high. However, even those that touched upon lofty heights soon learned their folly, and the land was abandoned, left to whatever gods might purge the festering blight.
The walled off north was not the only casualty in those first years after the fall. Other places where the crumbling star had tumbled suffered in their own ways. First, the weather turned, and the waters receded. Land grew ever more barren, as the seasons lengthened, winters stretching long and harsh. These things and more heralded the ending of an age, but spoke nothing of a new one to replace it.
Nevertheless, the people continue on, for there is naught to do but wait, and hold back the encroaching dark.
