You find yourselves in a strange place.
This game is currently looking for 2-3 more players. Characters start at Tier 2.
Here are the rules:
- No two characters from the same recursion. That means Earth, too. Feel free to create a recursion of your own devising, the stranger the better.
- No current ties to the Estate. Past ties are okay, but not required, either.
- No way back. You really can’t go home again. You’re all lost together, in the far reaches of what passes for the multiverse. It might have been for years, or days; you might be old friends or maybe you just met, but however it happened, you find you can’t just translate home again. You don’t know why. Maybe it’s too far, or it’s been too long and your recursion has changed too much, moved on without you. Maybe it doesn’t even exist anymore. You don’t know.
- Stick together. Come up with a reason to stay with the other PCs: friendship, love, a life debt, shared goals, blackmail, safety in numbers, anything. Your Connections and Links can offer suggestions, but ideally I’d like something stronger, since you won’t have the Estate’s oversight directing you.
Welcome to the Hinterlands, the Great In Between, the Crypt Planes, the Maze of Many Worlds. The detritus of an infinite number of fallen worlds is gathered here; recursions that by all rights should have collapsed, yet here they are, stacked one within the others like a neverending series of
matryoshka dolls.
This is intended to be a sandbox-y, worldhopping, character-driven game. Planescape, Sliders, Myst (mostly the sequels), The Sandman, and the works of Catherynne M Valente, China Mieville, and Robert Asprin are all influences.
The following books are in play: Numenera (Player's Guide and Core Rules), Numenera Character Options, The Strange (again, Player's Guide and Core Rules), In Translation: The Strange Character Options.
If you’re up for it, send me your character name and desired descriptor, type, and focus on at least two recursions. Selection will not be on a first-come first-serve basis. We’ll be starting at Tier 2, so that means you’ll have four advancements as well as everything else Tier 2 grants you. If you also send me at least a paragraph’s worth on a new recursion, you can also start with 2 XP.
