To help a friend (DnD 4th Ed)
You receive a letter from Akara, an old friend you haven’t seen for years. She, you and some other kids used to play together for hours in the forests, rivers and mountains near your home village, pretending to be the adventurers who were going to save your people from horrible threats.
As soon as you read it, some old wounds open again in your heart; you haven’t been able to wipe away the image of Aaron, the youngest one, lying immobile on the ground, his eyes open and filled with terror, his face dried as if he were 100 years old, his body evilly transfigured... After that dreadful day, life in Fallcrest for all of you and your families turned into a nightmare and most of you left the village.
The letter asks you to come back, she sounds desperate. She says her father is dying and begs you to help her fulfill his last wish. She mentions an ancient legend with which he’s been obsessed his whole life and says that his father has finally gotten the final clue to solve the mystery, but he’s too old and sick to go for it. He doesn’t want to die without knowing the truth about the legend.
You think that such an opportunity doesn’t show up every day, an adventure to help a friend. So you gather your belongings and head back toward your home village...
