A Completely Different Hope
It is a dark time for the galaxy. The GALACTIC EMPIRE holds an iron grip over thousands of worlds, and its invincible armies have ensured that THE EMPEROR has ruled unopposed since the GALACTIC REPUBLIC collapsed into chaos and disorder thirty years ago.
For most people, the Republic is remembered as a corrupt and decadent regime, with crushingly high taxes to fuel endless wars and line the pockets of senators and their friends. However, some few people, whose lives were touched by the heroic JEDI KNIGHTS, remember the ideals of liberty, justice, and democracy that the Republic represented.
These brave souls have formed the ALLIANCE TO RESTORE THE REPUBLIC, and they are the last hope for freedom in the galaxy.
This game is at least partially inspired by both the Star Wars: Rebels TV show and The Star Wars! comics. Therefore, some elements of the game setting are significantly different than presented in the game books.
The key conceit is that Darth Plagueis did not succeed in creating sapient life with the Force alone; Anakin Skywalker never existed, and so Count Dooku is the Emperor's right hand man and, furthermore, there are no "chosen heroes." There is merely a dark time and a few brave souls to oppose it.
The player characters are a team of agents in Alliance Special Operations, an elite division of talented mavericks in the early Rebellion tasked with the most difficult and dangerous missions, recruiting new fighters for the Rebellion, and causing as much trouble from the Empire as possible. Most of their time is spent behind enemy lines, trying to survive with minimal support and causing mayhem while they wait for crucial orders, opportunities, or requests for support from other Rebellion assets.
