Kyralia: Return of Black Magicians
"It is four years since the Sachakan Civil War. Diplomacy between the Allied Lands and Sachaka is slow but promising. With the acquisition of stone making the Magician's Guild must once again re-evaluate its policy on black magic, and the long term repercussions of the thief Skellin's roet assisted attempt to take over Imardin are still being felt; life the world over is changing quickly.
There are rumours of threats from further afield than even Sachaka but Kyralia and the Guild has enough to deal with without going out to look for more trouble. No aspect of society in Imardin isn't affected, and with new problems arising everyone is beginning to worry. There has been a recent killing spree which is causing the city guard no end of difficulty and with the arrival of spring a new disease is sweeping through the city, leaving the Magician's Guild's healer's working tirelessly to find the cause and a cure."
This is a game based on the world of the Black Magician and Traitor Spy trilogies written by Trudi Canavan. These are some of my favourite books. I was disappointed at the lack of opportunity to roleplay in this world so I took it upon myself to start this. I aim for this to be an open and free exploration of life in Imardin and possibly soon after, the rest of the Allied Lands, Sachaka and even more.
In the spirit of the books I hope for this to turn into a story populated with a variety of interesting characters with mystery, confrontation and intrigue as well as having to make those tough decisions when the time comes. Players will take on the roles of up and coming members of society from novices to thieves or whoever else might live in Imardin, with the aim of rising to important positions as the story progresses.
I am implementing a simple character system to handle conflicts which may still need tweaking (if you have suggestions I'd be happy to hear them). The idea is for the game to be as free as possible but for those key moments where you might be attacked or your ally has been poisoned there is some luck and risk involved.
I look forward to seeing a full Imardin and maybe together we can see how this version of Kyralia develops after the books.
