Special Operations Group: Zombie Apocalypse

2015, the beginning of the new year.  How many people putting up their new calendars even thought that those would be the last ones produced?

We know where it started, the Russian Federation, specifically Stepnogorsk.  We've known for years now that they've had a nuclear and bioweapons facility there.  On January 19 a 30 kiloton nuclear weapon detonated on the site of the Stepnagorsk Scientific and Technical Institute for Microbiology.  Satellite reconnaissance imagery from before the event showed mass chaos and civilian movement in and around the Stepnogorsk.  Within three minutes Putin was on the phone to Washington explaining the detonation as an accidental occurrence.

We knew better, within minutes of the call the Secretary of Defense had informed the president of the exact site of the detonation and the facility there.  The Russian President knew something had been released there and had ordered the detonation as a containment measure.  He knew he wasn't fooling anyone, but he had to save face.  We let him, releasing info to the press shortly thereafter explaining it as an accident.

We quietly asked through back channels and agents about what had happened, and to my knowledge, we found nothing.  The press screamed and yelled about nuclear weapons and why anyone still had them for a couple of weeks until another Kardashian got knocked up.  Protests were held for awhile and then dwindled out.  Reports slowly filtered out about the military cordon around the area.  Life went on and people forgot about it mostly.  Life in the 21st Century, right?

Sometime in early July Northern China started falling apart.  Mass uprisings, the people revolting and the Chinese Military was falling apart with it.  Practically every military unit ended up defecting to the 'rebels'.  Most of us cheered the 'rebels' on, when we should have been sending everything we had to help China.  We didn't know though.  Reports filtered out about plague, rebels, and disease.  This wasn't Hong Kong, this was mainland China, we were used to Chinese obfuscation on internal matters.  Maybe we should have known better, but hindsight is always 20/20.

It was when the reports started coming out of Kyrgystan, then Mongolia that we realized something was wrong.  It was too late, people had fled the areas where the breakouts had occurred.  People that had been bitten.  The disease spread like a wildfire through dry brush.  Countries all over the world tried to shut down their airports, their seaports, and their borders.  It wasn't quick enough.

By September it was here in the US.  We still didn't know what we were fighting, we couldn't believe what we heard, what we even saw.  It wasn't possible.  Thankfully when it came through, the dead came through on the West Coast and through Texas, it gave us enough time to get most of the government evacuated.  We grabbed as much food and supplies as we could and ran.  Now the United States consists of a dozen or so islands off of the East Coast and both the Atlantic and Pacific Fleets.

So, you're the Special Operations guys.  SEaLs, Green Berets, Delta, Pararescue.  You're the best of the best right?  Are you going to just sit there or are you going to help us take back the world?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Still a work in progress, anyone joining at this point will have some input into how things are.

If you don't know the rules, don't worry.  PM me and I'll help with them.

I'm not going to outright say no to any non operators, but you better wow me if you propose one.

What I'm looking for in a player:

1) Military knowledge or experience and knowledge of special operations units and operators.  Please don't waste my time with this.  You don't have to know everything, but you have to be able to play a convincing character.  If you get in and you can't do it, I will NOT hesitate to drop you.  I've had a lot of bad experience with this.
2) A good roleplayer.  You have to interact with the other players in a meaningful matter.  Don't constantly post a sentence only.  I like role, not roll, playing.

What I'm looking for in an RTJ:

1) A short writing sample.
2) An idea of what you want as a character, including a short character background.
3) This is an adult game because of language, violence, and themes.  I'll need the standard "I, ____, was born on _______, I am ___ years old and thus allowed to view adult material in my country of residence.".
4) Your "proof" of military knowledge.  I haven't been able to come up with any other ideas on how to make sure (or as close as I can) that you know what to do.  A good amount of the game will be planning ops out so that is how I'm doing it.  You have a choice of what to plan.  I just need a general sketch of what your op plan is, you don't have to write more than a paragraph or two.  Because of some confusion, you are planning the op for a team.  You don't have to design a plan for every one, though the more the better.

Op 1:  Get into a major coastal city, report on zombie activity and get out after a week.  You only have air support to get in or out, not both.
Op 2:  Air support is unavailable, you're surrounded in a small town with civilians.
Op 3:  There is a VIP you need to extract from a small town.  You know here's there, just not sure where.  There are some zombies in town, but a large group outside of it.
Op 4:  A dictator has an important hostage.  You need to rescue that hostage, there is a decent number of zombies in the area and the dictator has some heavy weapons.

If you can convince me otherwise, you're welcome to do so, but I will assume you are using google to obtain info.

Edit:  Posting rate.  I'm looking/hoping for about once a day.  I'm not firm on this, I would rather a good group of players that post less often than a so-so group that posts a lot.  My main focus is everyone keeping up with everyone else.  If it can be more than once a day, great!  If it's once every two or three days, that's fine also.

Edit 2:  Foreign special forces (at least friendly ones) are allowed.  Cross training between US units is common and it is also quite common to have foreign operators train here as well as US forces training abroad.

The reason that civilians won't be part of the main PC group is purely military expediency.  Spec Ops units train together literally every day.  Above and beyond being extremely skilled military professionals, a team works together like a fine Swiss watch.  Even a highly trained soldier like a Ranger would be slight liability.  A civilian would be an extreme liability.  Not only could a civilian not keep up with the unit, they wouldn't know what to do when it needed to be done.

Re: Special Operations Group: Zombie Apocalypse

Last few slots still open.  Currently 7 players (a team consists of 12 men), we're about to start, though the first bit will all be pure role play.

Re: Special Operations Group: Zombie Apocalypse

One, possibly two slots open.  Being somewhat new to RPOL, I didn't realize until late how active this game is.  We started on August 30th, and as of right now, have 1164 posts.  The RP started just 5 days ago and has 77 posts.  We have a very active and dedicated group.

Since this is a relatively unknown system, I am MORE than willing to teach the system to a new player.  In fact MOST of the players have no experience with the system at all, not including myself, only three other players have played it before.
