Lighthearted Space (Soap) Opera - Adult
OUT IN SPAAACE...
Humanity has settled the far reaches of space. So what?
Countless other species have done that before. Its actually not that much of a big deal at all... Aim your ship somewhere worth living, shoot it into the sky, let it defy gravity and sooner or later someone will reach a habitable planet.
Or die a gruesome death.
But thats another story.
In the year 2102 the first human settlers reached Mars. They all died sooner or later, because Mars is just a red ball of dust and dirt.
What were they thinking?!?
But it hasnt always been like this. About a quadrillion years ago, Mars was the home of a sentient species, called the Ancients, whose technology was so incredibly advanced, that they blew themselves up and left only a red ball of dust and dirt.
And a star-map.
The human settlers incidentally found this map and sent its data back to earth, where all our super-intelligent science people started to analyze it.
They found out, that pretty much every route the Ancients ever travelled, led to one certain point in the universe, which they creatively called "The Hub".
So the science-people figured, if any route lead to The Hub, that thing must have been pretty important and they kicked off a space-mission that would go there and find out, what it was all about.
In 2178 the first ship was sent in the direction of The Hub and - as a surprise to everone - didnt explode, or vanish, or disintegrate. They indeed reached their destination about 16 years after their departure from earth.
And what they found there was exceeding their wildest expectations. The Hub was a huge donut-shaped piece of technology, close to two planets, which seemed to work as a constant portal to... somewhere else.
Okay, maybe that wasnt really THAT exciting for itself, but what really made the astronauts jaws drop to the floor was everything, that was around The Hub.
Countless species had built various bigger and smaller space-stations around it and the place was crowded with all sorts of spaceships, coming and going.
The astronauts were all: "We come in peace from a planet called earth."
And the aliens were like: "Yeah, well, whatever."
In fact there were so many different species, that one new additon more or less didnt stir up much attention.
Now its the year 2537. Humanity has settled the far reaches of space, which was made possible with the help of alien technology they traded for worthless glass marbles and a few Collectors-edition Batman-Comics.
There are lots of human colonies all over known space, various space stations here and there and one bigger station directly at The Hub, which serves as some kind of human embassy, trading-center and place for all scum of the galaxy to meet, drink and have some fun.
Earth itself has become less important over the years and for many its just a vague memory.
The Hub itself was explored by many expeditions and it led to a place called The Vortex. Here, it seemed, time and space worked a little differently and it was quite dangerous to pass through the vortex, but there were many ressources to be gathered there and - if you found the right exit - it could take you all trough the galaxy in no time, making FTL-Drives look really shitty in comparison.
Here at the Hub countless species meet to find the their fortune. Or their doom. Maybe a bit of both. And you... you are one of them!
