Steam-Punk Van Helsing Style Monster Hunting, Semi-Erotic
St. Michael's is a free-form role-play set in 1889 in Victorian Era England at St. Michael's hunter's academy in the countryside of Northern England. However, it is not historically accurate in the slightest. That year and era serves only to justify the use of Victorian fashion. Beyond that, this game includes magic, monsters and excessive steam-punk technology. As a departure from my usual GMing method, I'm not even paying attention to scientific/realistic accuracy (within reason). The universe that St. Michael's is set in is one with many occult mysteries, but also one where the secrets of the universe itself (science) are given up far more readily than in our universe, but more on that later.
This role-play takes place in St. Michael's hunter's academy. After finishing their primary education, students from the United Kingdom, America, and much of Europe may attend the academy, but it's very important to note that St. Michael's is not the only place to go, nor is it the norm for monster hunters everywhere. Usually, monster hunters work on a master/apprentice relationship as opposed to classroom education, but some prominent families found monster hunting skills and knowledge useful in everyday life, so founded St. Michael's as a school for the elite monster hunters of the world.
The only two ways to get into St. Michael's is to be from a rich, prominent family whose members have been students for generations or personally picked by one of the faculty hunters to attend the school. The former is much more common than the latter as the teachers rarely find youth that are prodigies to such a degree as to vouch for them (and those students that don't turn out reflect badly on that teacher's tenure).
Be that as it may, the school is small. St. Michael's boasts between one hundred and two hundred students at any one time, although it's dormitories, laboratories and sanctums can accommodate up to five hundred. Students from prominent families all over Europe, North America and even farther, more exotic places attend, but despite that, the student body is small, although that's generally the way they prefer it.
All the students of St. Michael's, whether they end up using it or not, are taught to fight and kill monsters that threaten humanity, from the typical vampires and werewolves to more exotic creatures like wendigo and kitsune. Ultimately, it's up to the students and their family whether they go back to their normal lives or if they decide to go out into the world and slay monsters as they were taught.
