It all began in in 838AC when an arrow sailed into the feast of Odenia at the castle of Lord Holdyn Allen. None saw that assailant but many witnesses claimed to have seen a Sylvan Cloaked stranger wandering the castle that night. Later investigations would reveal that there had been many plots against the tyrannical Lord's life both for his own heavy handed rules and his closeness to the King and his family. Either way, the people of Aradis were incensed and many jumped on the Sylvans to blame as Lord Allen had been popular outside his own fiefdom.
It all began when a caravan of Sarencian nobles accompanying a trade caravan through the southern reaches of Aradis were ambushed by bandits. Several nobles were slain and many more injured as well as losing many precious belongings. The Aradis king investigated but never seemed intent on catching the thieves. The Sarencians were rightly outraged and a small band of noblemen rode through the Aradis lands to find the men themselves. They caused quite a stir and were eventually expelled forcefully but not until after ruffling the feathers of several local lords with vile accusations.
It all began when Crown Princess Serena Pterski was found in the bed of Lord Syril Janacek during a diplomatic ball to bring the two nations closer. The traditional Aradis families were outraged, the Sarencians nobles bemoaned the rash act for the diplomatic damage it would cause and the two royal families were deeply embarrassed. The Pterskis stormed from the meetings and the Janacek's tried to salvage it by offering a marriage between the two. The Aradis royals sent their young daughter to a convent and relationships between the two nations were frosty for a few years until it was revealed that Serena had run away to Sarencia and had married the boy. The Pterskis demanded restitution for the slights to their honor at what they saw was a Janacek plot to undermine their rule. The Janceks rankled at the acerbic treatment and fired back.
Tensions rose, a hundred little pieces of kindling were thrown on the heap, and the two nations erupted in a war that lasted for generations. No one but historians has any real idea what caused the war anymore. From 838ac to 987ac, the two nations and their allies were locked in a war that became part o the cultures. Only recently has a movement come underway to solidify the peace and stabilize it with marriages, which might have prevented it in the first place. The descendants of the Pterskis and Janaceks are now set to offer up a scion each in matrimony to unite the two nations. To strengthen this bond, many other nobles of eligible status are also presenting themselves for unions across the borders. Hosting this ball are the newly minted Duke and Duchess of Sylvania, themselves unifying their own nation.
