Re: Create your own Alien.
The rest of the galaxy knows them as the Dalimarae. The name they have given themselves is far more difficult to pronounce, since the physical characteristics of their mouths make their speech much different from the languages of most other races.
The Dalimarae live some five hundred light years coreward from Sol. Their homeworld, Aerativ, is considerably less dense than Earth, and so they have evolved in a low gravity environment. Thus, they have evolved into tall, spindly creatures not well suited to high gravity environments. Physically, they appear to be a thin cylinder with five equally spaced legs. Halfway up the cylinder, five eyes are positioned directly above the legs, and each with a long arm sprouting from above it, with three soft and fully opposable grasping fingers. Finally, at the top, its mouth is a round opening surrounded by a web of twenty to thirty thin, jointed mouthparts, which are nimble enough to take food from the hands and guide it into the mouth. It communicates using clicking noises from these mouthparts.
They are relative newcomers to the galactic stage, but have already carved out a place for themselves. Long before they had developed FTL capabilities, they had already colonized their home system, and factions had emerged among them. When FTL became available, these factions began competitively grabbing every bit of unclaimed low-gravity real estate, each of them trying to get ahead of the rest. Because of the kind of place they were looking for, they were able to settle peacefully in some systems on the edge of human space, since they were looking for low gee worlds, which the humans have little interest in.
The Dalimarae use hollowed out asteroids as ships, simply attaching a drive system to the back. Many of them, particularly the Iknem federation, tend to allow passengers to come along for little or nothing. However, many travelers may find it a bit uncomfortable, as their ships have no artificial gravity.
