People tend to prefer to have control over when, and where, videos and music are played.

You can have embedded video without it auto-playing surely?

Or you can just link to the videos, as you can do now, assuming you have an actual need for videos in a text based game.

There is a difference between clicking on link (and therefore navigating to another site) versus having a video embedded on the same page that you just have to click on to start/stop...   On some of the games/boards I play on, people quite often post links to stuff.   I rarely can be bothered to follow them.  But if they were embedded however, I would be much more likely to click play to watch/listen to the embedded video/sound...

That is why it would be a useful feature.

That would likely run into the same issue with people hotlinking direct to images, rather than putting the images on their own site before linking to them - ie: some places don't like you doing it, they want you to send people to their site, so those viewers can see the adverts that pay that site's bills.

In addition, embedding a video from youtube requires us to allow youtube's player to work here - meaning a piece of code that we are (under their ToU) not allowed to alter or adjust in any way, and which we must allow them to change any time they want to.  So... let somebody else change the code for something on RPoL that we are not allowed to change ourselves?

A way to name links would be welcome tho, so we get "link to video" instead of 100+ nonsense characters. This, incidentally, would also be welcome for images, some image hosting sites (like, say, google photos) use ridiculously long names, which rpol refuses to post because you have too many contiguous characters.

As it says in the Help, if you are a GM, then you can rename a link, using the format <a href="http://www.somesite.com/the-url.html">The Linkage!</a>

No, and that was a deliberate decision on the part of the owner of this site.

Honestly, I'm really in favor of leaving them out, both as a GM and a player. I don't want to see someone else's things unless I make the decision to go look at them as a player, and as a GM, I'd like to not have to change things so that the link isn't horrendously long. Just my 2 cents.

There is also a potential issue of things like XXX and R rated links being auto-played to minors
