Colors of Thread Hyperlinks

I have a suggestion.  I'm not sure if I'm asking for the moon here or not. ???  I'm also not sure if others would find it useful if it were possible.  But...

I think it would be nice for the DM to be able to select the color of the hyperlink of a thread if you wanted something different than the default.  This would allow DM's to make their campaigns a bit more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.  For example:

- All Threads there for informational purposes(Setting info, RTJ threads, Character Build instructions, etc...) could be red.  Once you're in the heart of the campaign you generally won't need to open these again.

- All OOC threads (for DM's like me that run multiple adventures or groups within the same rpol campaign) could be yellow.

- All IC threads could be blue.

- All Archived threads could be bold black.

If we were able to click on "Edit Thread" and have it include the same drop down list of color options that there are in the "styled text" drop down of a post then this would allow us to assign different colors to OOC/IC thread hyperlinks of the different groups being run (Group 1 OOC is light blue, IC is blue, Group 2 OOC is yellow, Group 2 IC is goldenrod).

I understand that people only have to read the thread to see what it is.  So no, a colored hyperlink isn't really necessary.  I also understand that PC's only see the threads of the Groups that the DM assigns them so that their home screens aren't as busy as the DM's.  Still, IF it is not a complex programming issue to give us this option it would be nice. :)  At least in my opinion.

The big problem I can see with that is that the colours of links, etc, are all dependent on the colour scheme selected by the individual user.  You can set a custom colour scheme with whatever colours you like, but the colours will only apply to you - if somebody else uses one of the pre-set colour schemes, everything they see will conform to that.

And allowing you to force colours to be changed for everybody in your game might cause issues if your selected colours clash with their chosen colour scheme.

Also note that changing colours for all players might actually drive players away from your game, judging by the number of threads over the years about how holiday colour schemes "make my eyes bleed!!!!!"

Good points, I suppose. :)  I imagine that allowing individual players the option of changing thread colors like I described rather than DMs forcing the change would be a crazy amount of work. True? I'm no where near a Programmer but know it's not worth it if so.

Players can already set up custom colour schemes, though they apply to the whole site.

Wouldn't allowing players to set up colour schemes for individual games defeat the point of your original suggestion - that the GM could set his game to appear more "aesthetically pleasing"?

I don't think so.  If I had the option of changing all the IC threads a different color in all my games I'd do it.  Even some of the games I just run a PC in, there are enough threads, old and new, that it looks like a wall of text.  It would be nice if I could make the IC threads stick out a bit more.  Again, not a huge deal. *shrug*

I can't say that I've ever wanted to have different colors in the thread link list - and indeed, I think it might result in such an eyesore that it would do more harm than good. Also, keep in mind that one man's 'more aesthetically pleasing' is another man's 'MY EYES! MY EYES! OH GOD MY EYES!'

Edit: Now, if someone could make it so we could tag OOC threads and have the light-up notification of new posts in those be something like yellow instead of red on the dashboard... that would be spectacular.
