Tenra Bansho Zero

I was thinking of starting a TBZ game here on RPoL, but the dice roller isn't easy to configure for that game, and I hope this is the correct forum to ask.

The systems uses 2 stats to determine rolls: an attribute (that gives the quantity of d6 to roll) and a skill (that determines the value up to which a roll gives you a success). For instance, if I have an Agility of 7, and a Melee Combat skill of 4, I will need to roll 7d6 (for the Agility attribute), and the success rate would be determined by every die that came out with a 4 or less.

There is also the all-important Emotion Matrix that uses the d66 (like a d100, but using d6 for the digits, giving values from 11 to 66), and I see it's not set up. I have to say TBZ is not the only system using the d66 I encountered, and it could turn out to be useful for other games as well. I know I could use the "record each die" option on a 2d6 roll, but I'd really like to see the die set up...

PS: I noticed that in the "Game Systems" list there is a typo, as it says "Bansha" instead of "Bansho".

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

The "typo" would be because that's the name we were given: link to a message in another game

Fixed it.

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

its actually takes a little bit of thought and counting but you can just roll the number of dice and count the number of successes.

at least that is what I have done with the TBZ games I have been involved with on here

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

The simplest dice roller option is to use Target Number. That gives you successes when dice rolls are high (rather than low in Tenra), but it's easy to shuffle things about: just use 7 - Skill and you're set.

So your Melee skill of 4 becomes a Target Number of 3, giving a success for rolls of 3, 4, 5, 6 - 4 dice results, which is exactly what you have with a Skill of 4 (1, 2, 3, 4).

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

If there's no specifics needed for the way the attribute+skill rolls are done then target number is the way to go.

I can change d66 to be the way you describe, my only issue with that is that it'll then be handled differently to how d65, d67, and all the other possibilities are rolled.  I'm not sure if anyone ever needs to roll d66 and have it coming out as a result between 1 and 66, but it's currently possible and it's uniform for all numbers.

Do I also then change the way d22, d33, d44 etc work?  I think we'd really need to come up with a different way to denote we want two d6.

It's never simple!

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

Target number is the way to go, thanks!

About the d66, I suppose it's best leaving it at a 2d6 "record each die" roll, as the results should be limited to 11-16, 21-26, 31-36, 41-46, 51-56, 61-66.

Thank you a lot for the support! Now I can start a game!

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

You could also "d6,d6" under the manual input section.

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

If looking for a different way to denote it, you could label it a d6d6 as opposed to a d6,d6.

I agree that I would expect a d66 to potentially produce any of the 66 numbers from 1 to 66, if I were to ask it to roll that in the manual box.  I don't remember the specific reasons, but I have used the manual entry to roll really odd numbers before.  [though probably not a d66]

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

Well, I was planning on using a d78 to emulate a tarot deck... (or d22 for just the major arcana, depending on the situation).

Re: Tenra Bansho Zero

Silly me, use "2b6".  That'll give you exactly what you want.

So many features I forgot about the base rolls.  (c;
