Suggestion: Active vs Non-Active Games you Play In & Peruse

I've been playing and running games here since 2002.  I love the site and the improvements over time.

Suggestion: I'd like to suggest there be a way to separate active games (ones where people are posting and you are frequently checking) from non-active games (ones where the GM has gone missing or the game has been put on hold for an extended period of time).

Personal Reason: I've got 14 games in my "Games You Play In & Peruse" but only 3-4 of them are really in play.  I know that I can "unsticky" them and will be notified if someone posts.  But if no one posts and I do that then I lose the game to be able to go back and pull data from (like funny anecdotes, character stats, links, or other minutia.  However, if I keep everything I've ever touched that hasn't been scrapped officially from the GM then my "Games You Play In & Peruse" gets overly bloated and it is hard to tell if my 3-4 active games have actually become 1-2.  Additionally, if I "sticky" games I'm Perusing only then it gets even harder to find the games I play in vs the games I peruse.

I hope this suggestion makes sense & others find such a delineation valuable and I look forward to reading feedback or possibly seeing this added in a future update.

If you go to User Preferences (link right next to your user name) one of the options there is 'manage the games you monitor'.  In there, at the bottom, is a link called 'Are you missing any games?' which will bring up all games you are a member of that aren't currently in your sticky list.

Certainly a nice work-a-round for games I've dropped and want to find (where I am a member) but not so helpful for games I read/lurk (but am not a member).  However, (you Rock for such a quick response!) Dara I will start using the work-a-round while people hacky sack my idea into oblivion :)

Re: Suggestion: Active vs Non-Active Games you Play In & Peruse

You know, just the option to sort the list as desired would be wonderfully helpful. Now storing the info would be a problem though. I see a couple of options around that though. (I'm not familiar with the languages or systems used though.)

First, store the preferred order as a cookie on the client's computer and use the current layout if the cookie isn't present. Is limited in who can use it, but it is very versatile, doesn't detract from current usability for everybody, and it doesn't take much from the servers, (I don't think anyway).

Second, have a variety of preset sorting styles based on data that is grabbed anyway, such as whether a game is flagged with new posts, post count, date of last post, name, etc. Each profile would need only one additional variable (a single byte would likely be enough) to determine which order.

Adding a check for posting speed (perhaps number of posts in the last month) for a flag could be used. Will add to server load a bit, but there might be a quick way to do this to minimize the issue, (such as setting a flag only when the game is accessed, but the flag can be read anytime without going into the game itself. Probably how the other flags are done I figure, but I'm not sure) in which case this could be added to either option above.

Just some ideas. Not sure how good they are.
