I'm not sure if this would be possible but I think it would be cool if the character name that is being played within a campaign was included at the end of the campaign title.  Under the header "Games you Play in and Peruse" there's a list of our games.   I play in a half dozen and sometimes get confused on which character is where(Not a big deal) but it would be kinda neat to have the character name listed there too.  Like so:

Games You Play In & Peruse
[Game Name] (Khorbyn Blacksmith)
[Game name] (Humbert Janson)

I'm just throwing it out there and seeing what you guys think.

seems like it would get too confusing for games where people play multiple characters in single games.

It also seems it would add clutter to an already information-rich area just to help a few people who can't remember who they play in which games.

I might be wrong about that few part though -- are there a lot of people out there who can't remember what characters they play in which games?

Only when I'm playing/GMing multiple characters -- sometimes I think my other GMs "own" that character, but it's actually mine.  :-/

ETA:  But this idea wouldn't help me, as it wouldn't be one of my main characters in the game.

Just how many characters do you have to be able to forget who is where @.@

I have seven campaigns that I'm just a player and then 1 that I actively DM.  Several of those campaigns are very slow moving and don't take much of a time commitment though.

My older campaigns and the ones with daily posts; yeah I'm okay with those. :P

On the new games or the ones where there's a week between posts sometimes I'll click on a link, thinking I'm going into one game/character and then having a 'duh' moment before backing out and clicking on the right link.

Like I said, it's not really an issue of inconvenience.  More something that I thought would be a cool 'personilization" on the link itself.

Straight up PCs, or major NPCs, too?  Off the top of my head that would be... About a dozen PCs of varying activity levels and well over 50 official NPCs (the ones with cast listings). That doesn't include recurring NPCs I haven't made official yet. I've actually accidentally used the name of an NPC in Game A in a post in Game B. :-p

I could see the idea of the name in the game title being nice for the casual, one-character-per-game type of player, but I can't imagine how the site would be able to keep up, especially with GMs.

Assumedly if it's just there as an aide-memoire, then you wouldn't need the name until you were actually in the Game menu (on the grounds that if you can't remember you play Fred the Fighter in the Dungeon of Death, then you're not going to remember if Dungeon of Death is one of your most favourite games or not), so wouldn't it be better to list character name(s) on the Game Menu screen instead ?

I imagine sitting it up there on the Welcome line as there seems to be lots of space:

Welcome to Dungeon of Death - you play Fred the Fighter plus Reginald the Rogue, Wally the Wizard

So it only has to poll the current game for your character(s) and can use the same format GMs see on the Player management dropdown.  Again, for players only, not GMs.

Hah !  So it does - thanks BBR ... never noticed.  But if we were going to include secondary characters then I'm suggesting it'd need to be moved to the Welcome line cos there's more space ... but if we did that then yes, definitely remove the hitherto-unnoticed-by-me character name from the dice icons options line.  :>

And yes, all names already show on the dropdown - was just suggesting they could be displayed up front in the Game Menu for players only if that's what people wanted (anything to keep 'em cluttering up the Main Menu).  But not something I want myself (I can remember my char names), hence the +0.

I will say, since we're talking about it, that I still miss when the top said, "Welcome, [main character name], to [game name]".  It was just... friendly.  Why did we move that?

(I say, "We", because RPoL is a monolithic hivemind.  If you are still plagued with individual thoughts and opinions, you can go to User Preferences, toggle Hivemind: On, and jooiiin usss....)

Perhaps, if you wanted a place to put a more complete list of a players' characters associated with them on the main screen, you could perhaps have it be a tooltip that would appear if you mouse over your primary characters' name over next to the line of dice buttons.  (yes, tool tips might not show up or be easily accessible on some platforms, but it would be more a convenience than a requirement anyway)
