'Punk' get's no love...

Just want to say that I am loving the new game categories and truly honored that some of them were based on my ideas: but I have noticed one glaring flaw in the new system: namely that every category but one has a description. Who is the poor lonely orphan left out in the cold you ask? Punk, which formerly was Cyberpunk, and honestly deserves to be treated better after having been so long neglected as Sci-Fi's baby sister. Now I am sure that this is not a deliberate slight of the most neglected genre in the group, but wont one of the mods take a moment to give Punk a description?

What's the difference?  I've seen tweakers in Sci-fi and straight Mr. Johnson's in Cyberpunk.  Would Shadowrun fit in either category or is it firmly in one side?

Re: 'Punk' get's no love...

Missed that one, left the old Cyberpunk definition there (which didn't help one iota).

Have fixed it, though the description is pretty sub-par.  I had to make up all the new ones myself!

In reply to Genghis the Hutt (msg # 2):

Shadowrun would rightly be a combination of fantasy, cyberpunk, genepunk, biopunk, and possibly transhuman themes.

Or to put it in the modern category system: Fantasy, Punk, Sci-Fi.

Why is cyberpunk no longer a genre?  Still is for books & videogames....?

Re: 'Punk' get's no love...

Because people saw that it was it's own genre, and didn't see why steampunk, magipunk, dieselpunk, and all the others didn't have their own categories.  So now they are all included in one category called 'Punk, which covers all of them.

Re: 'Punk' get's no love...

Just took a look at the description and while I am in complete agreement that it could use some more polish I think that it will serve for the moment.

Thanks Jase.

Re: 'Punk' get's no love...

So Punk is sci-fi but like totally hardcore, angel food cake's!  'Cause that sort of stuff can't exist in a regular sci-fi game, like Nero in Star Trek.  Or is Star Trek not sci-fi but instead totally Punk 'cause it's got like Borg probes that directly make you insane in the membrane!!! ;)

In all honesty, I still don't understand the difference.
