Character profile has no attached help

  • Go into any game you play in (as GM or player) that uses character sheets (and that you'll ultimately be able to edit).
  • Go to the cast screen.
  • Select a character (anyone if you're a GM, "you" if you're a PC).
  • Click "View your Character Details".
  • Click "Edit Character Sheet"

Now click the red "Help" in the top right corner of the RPoL screen.  It opens a popup window whose address is set to /help/?page=charprofile and which says, "Sorry, charprofile could not be found or opened."

Character profiles, character sheets, follow all the same rules as a regular post, right?  Perhaps they should link to /help/?page=threadsposts instead.

Re: Character profile has no attached help

In reply to Genghis the Hutt (msg # 1):

Private Lines in your character profile don't seem to become visible to... I'm guessing anyone except the GMs.  They do get processed, so they vanish from the display (for all users, including yourself).  But it seems like only GMs see them.  Your character sheet, the PLs actually show up for yourself, but I admit, since I believe only yourself and the GM can see your character sheet, a PL doesn't serve too much of a purpose other than make the block stand out some.

If I am correct, the language tags don't work within the Character Descriptions either.

So there are some differences in what is supported in some of those locations.

Re: Character profile has no attached help

Private lines in a character sheet can be useful for GM notes - the GM can set up a private line to himself that the player can't see - perhaps that sword he found is cursed, and the spell will only take effect after it draws blood for the first time.

With a private line, the GM can put the note right there, conveniently placed next to the item, and only un-private it when the curse becomes active.

Re: Character profile has no attached help

I would think the GM should use a GM Note (or is is Private Note, I can't remember).  Since the player can see the contents of a private line they have in their character sheet.  [Inside their description they can't see it... however they will see it in their edit screen]

Re: Character profile has no attached help

Actually, players can not read a GM's private notes in the Character Sheet, even when editing the sheet.

Re: Character profile has no attached help

I think Private Note are different form Private Lines... I believe the 'owner' or the content [or poster] can see PL in their character sheet.  After a quick test... I think I've verified it is:

[ Private Note:  Stuff ]

Re: Character profile has no attached help

You could well be right about them being two different things, it's been a while since I used them.

Re: Character profile has no attached help

Good to know.  I never thought of putting in a private note as a GM next to a cursed sword or whatever to remind myself.  Perhaps if I GM a game I should private notes by lots of things...

Anyway, clicking the Help button from the character profile editing page doesn't really take you to a useful page.
