Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

I agree, get the scroll bars back. It is quite difficult if it is a long list, to be able to move and get the correct person. This has been one of the things that has driven me crazy since it had been changed.

yes, crazy, it looks pretty, just irritating for the games that have lots of characters.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

I can't even USE the new scroll-bar. I have to use my mouse-wheel to move around that menu — if I even try to click on the scroll-bar, I end up selecting whoever I had the pointer near. Depending on how I'm sitting, I can't even see the new bar.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

I (and I am sure others) have had to resort to that, but thing is, the selector was originally a thing of convenience and I am trying to point out that in trying to make it look better it has become more troublesome than the convenience it was originally designed as.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

When we added "secret to" and "secret to group" lines to the already long list of "private to", "private to group" and "language", we had to do something as the scroll list was getting massive.  If we hadn't, instead of this issue, we'd be getting complaints about how long the list was and how much people had to scroll!

It does scroll, it's just that the scroll is actually the entire page.  I know on my machine I use the scroll wheel to scroll, and that works well, but I'm guessing on handheld devices and the like it'd be troublesome.

The drop-down list uses CSS instead of a plain select list when the list gets large, which has its own set of rules and idiosyncrasies.  I'll have to see if anything can be done.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

I use desktop/laptop and it scrolls wonderfully for me, even with trackpad on the laptop. :>

gillisle02 - are you trying to drag the scrollbar indicator (or whatever that solid block is called) up and down ?  I can see how you'd run out of travel with a trackpad if the list was taking up the full screen ... but you can just click on the blank area above and below the indicator block and it'll jump a page at a time, allowing you to readjust your finger position if needs be.  Alternatively, once you activate the list, you can use home, end, page up, page down and arrow keys to navigate up and down, which might give you more fine control.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

Both Chrome and Firefox do scroll.  As mentioned (above) it's part of the page scroll, it's not on the selector section.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

for months, only on rpol, there has been no scrollbar or it has been greyed to the point I can't see top or bottom.  But on the "Private to" drop down menu it is nonexistant and no where else has it posed a problem.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

That is part of the problem jase, as if you don't click it correctly it doesn't move when you try to scroll or what I do is use the arrow keys to move down the list. It becomes an all around major pain, when you have a long list. At least when you had the scroll bar on the actual list, you can use your mouse to do it all. Not to mention it doesn't highlight over anything anymore, so you don't know for sure you are on the right one either. And I am on IE for all of this.

In reply to gillisle02 (msg # 18):

There's no scroll bar for the entire site?  How do you view threads with more than a few messages?

I haven't had any other reports of this, and it'd affect the entire usability of the site, so I can only assume it's something local.

In reply to prophacyks (msg # 19):

Which is why I said (in message 12) I'll have to see if anything can be done to improve it.  At the moment, however, there is a scrollbar, even if it's not the most user-friendly.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

I use a keyboard, I grew up not trusting the mouse, unfortunately for that in particular (the "private to") the key arrows do not work, I have tried.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

Yup, whether you use mouse or keyboard, the scrollbars should still be there.

Had a bit of a Google, and the following links to Mozilla Support seem to suggest that scrollbars can vanish in Firefox at certain zoom resolutions, and have instructions for changing a hidden setting to ignore any CSS scripts, which might be worth a try:

In reply to gillisle02 (msg # 21):

You will need to make sure you click fully I usually click twice on the "private to:" option with your mouse, and from there it is usually enough that you can use your arrow key. For some reason one click is never enough.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

It acts as a hover menu, noclicking is viable, it only opens the menu if I hover ofer it and then slide my mouse into the menu.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

Right but you have to actually click on where it is written "Private to" if you do that, it will keep the list up when you use the arrow keys to move down.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

The beta site has a working copy of the drop down list with its own scrollbar now.  Test it to see if it works well for you.

Chrome and Firefox insist on putting a horizontal scrollbar as well (IE is ok), I'll have to see what can be done about that.  The exact size and positioning is also still being tweaked.

Nothing I can do about the arrow keys not working.  RPoL requires a mouse to be utilised properly.

Thanks Jase.

Working better, but still no scroll bar, though the arrows work better now.

Pretty sure I did, but who am I to say assumptions aren't okay??

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

How many do users/groups do you have in the list?  There's got to be enough (~17 atm) to make it scroll.

If you have over 20, then I'll need to know browser info.

Re: Private Lines - Scroll Bars

gillisle02-You need to go to the beta testing part of RPOL to see the change. He hasn't implemented it in the one we are on right now.

jase-I see the scroll bar now, much better. It is at least close of how it used to be. :-)
