Nation Builder?

So, first of all, let me start this with saying that I don't have a particular system in mind for this game.

Now, for the real depth to the idea. I want a game in which I can build a nation from somewhat humble beginnings. I'd like something that is a little bit number crunchy, and much more focused on building the nation than adventuring or using the character persona to do things. Things like the Sid Meyers Civilization would definitely be a good spring board. I would like to have the opportunity to research things, develop things.

I played something like this briefly here on RPOL a while back, but I believe it was pretty home brewed, rather than a specific system. All I know is that I fell in love with it, and like any fan (okay devotee, shhh!) of 4x games, I want more.

I'm open to a small group, or solo. I do know I enjoy the factional interplay that small groups can bring into the mix. I would prefer it to be a bit of a moderate paced game, maybe a turn once a week or so, so that things can be thought through, etc.

If you're willing to GM this, I would be amazingly grateful to hear from you.

Count me in as another person who wants something like this. I've always thought the basic mechanics behind Catan could be adapted for this sort of thing.

For a clarification, this game should be all about resource handling, with the primary (not exclusive) resource being money.

Things like building a road should be where I order a road to be built, with x amount of money, and maybe that's enough, maybe it isn't, and x amount of money spent on researching new farm tools, or crop rotation, etc etc.

This seems a lot better suited to a game like Civilization than it is necessarily well suited towards role-playing.

Doing a nation builder campaign would be fun, but I think it would be better spent in the intrigue and diplomacy kind of stuff and less on the minutiae. But that's just me.

Mostly agreed, but I like the building of armies too!

But yeah, definitely more the nation size things rather than minutiae. Would a potential GM be able to count you two in as well?

potentially a game where you play the ruler of the nation, issuing commands to different aides to carry out orders, with turns taking weeks or months I guess, also with another thread for role-playing diplomacy and such between nations, r and d happening on the side, as well as random events etc...

Is this the type of game people are thinking of?

It looks like there would be a need for some type of home brewed system to be created by the gm I guess? Or keep it kinda freeform with the gm running rules in the background maybe?

Just some ideas, the game sounds interesting concept wise.

More or less what I had envisioned. I wasn't really horribly focused on the aides carrying out orders, but more on the more number crunchy side of things, though definitely turns taking several weeks for roleplay options.

Fantasy setting, sci fi, or more like Civilisation and say starting in the stone age and developing through???

Or starting a bit later with some tech already worked out?

Could be tempted to try running something like this...

I got impatient and started a game up yesterday. It's sci-fi with starting tech in the early middle ages. I'm not yet ready for players, but I'm getting there.

link to another game

This is rated as an Adult Game. This is to give players a level of freedom in their nation building to build their nation's culture more broadly than non adult games are allowed.

I've had a few ideas of this nature. Tried a sci-fi version but made it too large too quickly, and it collapsed under its own gravity.

However, I would be interested in putting my ideas down onto paper if people are still interested in a fantasy based system. I'm also looking at playing in so will be applying for other games too.

For comparison to computer games though, I envision my style of game would be more Colonisation than Civilisation in nature to prevent things getting too unwieldy. Resource management, some tech-tree and developments.

Could easily do Colonisation style of having invisible "parent nations" who influence events in game or Civ style of starting as unlanded tribes and work up depending on style of game wanted.

Thoughts??
