Blue Planet/Subnautica/Ecco-style game with SW or something?

Blue Planet is a really cool, atmospheric setting paired with a system that is serviceable at best. Subnautica also has a very cool vibe to it, with a lot of exploration of this hostile alien aquatic world, its mysteries and dangers. The Ecco the Dolphin games were great for this, but especially some of Defender of the Future. Some of those alternate futures where mankind had gone extinct but left massive machines underwater and so on, that's all very great imagery.

So what about something either using Blue Planet's setting (because playing as an orca is something everyone should do at least once) or something inspired by the other two? Big setting with gameplay focused on exploration, mysteries, and ancient secrets of the deep.

I would really enjoy playing in something like this! Subnautica has really swept me off my feet in terms of exploration and the mystery of the game itself, and I would really like to explore that sort of underwater world in more ways.

Great idea, Samus. :)

Hey Blue Planet Fans!

I love Blue Planet and own almost all the books for the RPG, except for the Dolphin supplement.  I'm tentatively interested in running a game set On Poseidon, "The Blue Planet"

A couple of caveats however.

-I'm not a fan of the clunky rules, so I'd use something else for a system.  I don't own Savage Worlds, as was recommended above. I have a couple ideas for more PBP friendly systems.

Simple D6 system or possibly Mongoose Traveller or Original Traveller. Maybe even CoC/BRP.

-I'm going to ask you to play humans. Dolphin/Orca's will be rare and not PC's. I find it too demanding as the GM to do the "out of the water" parts of the adventures with these kind of purely aquatic characters. Natives or Genetically Engineered humans are fine.

We would need to narrow down what type of game, who the players want to be, as well before I would fully commit to running, however I'm interested in discussing it :)

I've often thought a "Coast Guard"/ Emergency Response Team type of game, with players taking on the role of a rescue crew would be fun and different than a lot of combat games where the emphasis in on helping others survive  rather than killing them. There are all of the big Typhoon like storms that regularly  sweep the planets tropics as well as the constant danger from the sea, its creatures and malfunctioning mining/diving equipment etc. Plenty of adventure potential. Sort of like a Coast Guard Helicopter crew...

That's an idea anyway. I'm open to others...

I'm willing to Run as an adult game as well.

I'd really rather focus on mostly underwater adventures so the lack of cetacean PCs is a bit much for me. I would likely be okay with a genetically modified humanoid, but I hate to see it locked off when others might want it.

Similarly, I'm more about mystery and the exploration (I really enjoyed Subnautica's take on stranding the player, personally). I'd rather see something like that as opposed to a coast guard kind of game, but that's my personal preference.

I like adult games for their various allowances, but it's not at all necessary to me. :)

Yeah, I have to agree that having the underwater adventures is pretty paramount. I'm not opposed to a coastal game (because it gives you the best of both worlds: land and sea, being there on the periphery between worlds). I do definitely want a lot of exploration, discovery, and mystery and stuff; the secrets of the deeps make for powerful stories, and lots of very evocative imagery.

Could the game not allow for drones or simply human liaison characters that the cetacean players could use while during out of game stuff?

Are you thinking of playing it a more slice of life type game with action elements? I like the idea of a kind of sea lab type base with the PC's going out to do investigate stuff. Have you considered the FATE system? It's flexible and you can substitute the special dice with D6's if you want.

I could run a game using a mashup of two FATE Worlds Of Adventure... Deep Dark Blue and Ghost Planets... which are both pay-what-you-want on DriveThru RPG. Any interest, Samus Aran?
